Hello Hannah,

You might check out another forum thread here on peri-menopause/menopause. Some really good info there:

If you are at the age when this approaches, your symptoms may be related. I read the post because I am having many of these same symptoms and am finding that this may be happening to me too. I am going to have some blood work done to clarify my thyroid T3, T4, hormone levels. The herbal therapy I am taking has made a huge difference. I will be happy to see what the blood work shows.

Hope you are doing well soon,
Eileen :)

I can undertsnad your situation totally. I was seeing a therapist and he recommended me to go on an antidepressant. My Primary Dr did as well, and gave me a few samples of lexapro. I had that lexapro sitting in my medicene cabinet for 6 months! I was so scared of taking it cause they say it increases anxiety at first, I was VERY afraid to take it. I am soooo sensitive to every med, and hesitate to take anything! Well, I couldn't take this anxiety anymore. I was very agoraphoic, wouldn't go out, stayed at home, anxiety 24/7. I was desperate!! I cried everyday. So I started a very tiny dose of the lexapro cause I was afraid to take the full pill. I cut the pill in 1/4's, and took 1/4 pill every day for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, I am now on 5 mg. I can finally say after 3 weeks I feel so much better. I didn't have any side effects, other than less anxiety and have been sleeping much better. If your afraid, just start small and work your way up. :)

That is great advice about taking a little at a time. I unfortunately read the leaflet in the bag with the meds and even go online to look up the med to make matters worse. Talk about trying to sabbotage yourself.:(

dont be afraid of meds there are alot of good meds out there to help you enjoy a better life i used to be the same way i was raised to belive you just have to fight things off my parents never really understood what i went through (scary thoughts depression anxiety)but it wasnt their fault it was how they was raised so please talk to your doctor and be honest with them about how you feel and they will start you on a low dose of a med and hopefully one will help you

I was terrified to take meds due to a bad reaction to Paxil a few years ago. My anxiety and depression was at an all time high two months ago. Started accupuncture and never looked back. Calm and sleeping. Unfortunately not covered by insurance, but my practitioner actually worked with me to start 1x/week for 3 wks and now I'm up to 1x every 3weeks. My goal is once a month. No crying, anxiety attacks. etc. It's been life changing. The only time I get obsessive thoughts is when I don't have enough rest and I remind myself to take time for me. It seems to be working.
