Hey Vicki:

I have the same thoughts. I take Klonopin as needed and feel guilty or worried if I take it too much. I suspect this is just part of the same scrupulousness that gives us anxiety to begin with. I don't want to minimize it's addictive properties, but if you're suffering and it helps you function, you should use it as directed.

Vickox,

Yes at times I do feel guilty for having to take a anti-anxiety med.........But I feel more guilty when I can't be still to do homework, to freaked out to go to the market, to freaked out to stay patient to say prayers with my children. When anxiety has one's life completely altered then by all means taking an anxiety med is ok....You don't know if you need it in the future so don't worry about addictions worry about today for tomorrow has its own worries. Some days I"m great I don't need any meds and some days I do....Its no different then one needing an inhaler for asthma or blood pressure meds, or someone needed meds for insulin because they can't keep their sugar levels (carbs) under control....

So be gentle with yourself and enjoy this life that you so richly deserve.

I click on the above link that is from the United Kingdom which FDA is diffrent from ours but I have not seen it say anything than other then people become addicted. But I have not read anything that said long term use is devastating to the body........No more than a tylenol long term use affects the liver and motrin long term use affects the kidneys. So what does one do? Suffer or get some peace from the day.....Live day to day for tomorrow is not promised to none of us........

I've been taking Klonopin for 10 months- prior to that I took Ativan as needed for about 6 months. I disagree with a lot of the comments here. Yes benzos cause dependency, but you can taper off them properly when the time comes- this is no different than what you'd do with an SSRI.

There is nothing wrong with long term use of benzos- they are safe meds that have been around for a long time. The studies confirm this. There are a lot of people (including myself) who cannot tolerate any other kind of medicine, so why not use the benzo class of drugs? I don't understand why people are so misinformed on these meds.

Whatever you do, don't beat yourself up. Follow your doctors instructions and if you have concerns speak to him/her.
