Wow, I am sorry for your experience on zoloft. I have taken an array of different meds trying to find a good combo for me however currently I am not taking anything and I while right now I feel okay I do have much more dramatic mood swings off of the medication and more intense anxiety as well off of it.
I took Paxil for about 3 months and it made me very drowsy but it did work okay for anxiety if it weren't for "the yawns", lol.
Zoloft I took for roughly 4 years as well as through my 2nd pregnancy. I swore by it for my anxiety and depression for the first few years but then my therapist decided to up my dose since it didn't seem to be working as well. I began having more panicky episodes and deeper depression after my Mother passed away, mind you I was also only 5 weeks post pardum. I went from 100 to 200 mgs and found it to defintely kick out my anxiety but did throw me into depression. I struggled to stay away, gained 40 lbs in less than 4 months, struggled with my concentration worse than I did during my most anxious years, and I just felt really disconnected.
My point is that I learned through this experience that medication can be a wonderful option but it can also lead to other problems. I thankfully never went through a suicide attempt on it but I definitely felt that really low feeling. I am personally not against medication if it works for you but I am glad that I found this program to compliment it. I am currently thinking about trying something new to help me control my mood swings and anxiety so I can successfully work on this program. Good luck to everyone out there. This can be a really difficult decision.
Zoloft experience- helpful for anxiety, intrusive thoughts, depression?
I have not personally tried Zoloft but have heard bad things about it from 2 of my friends(it didn't help them at all, in fact made their symptoms worse). That doesn't mean it won't help you, like the other poster said, everyone's chemistry is different and it may work differently for you. That is why, while feedback is great, it can also scare you away from something that may actually help you. I have tried lexapro and it did stop my anxiety right away, however, it did not help w/the obsessive thinking. I also have tried prozac and that helped me for a while but i decided to get off of it due to the side effects. You just have to try and try again till you find something you like and that works for you. Dont' be afraid to not take meds either, this program is great and really works.
Roxann, my anxiety started after my mom passed so I can relate to your situation. YOu sound like you are doing well so keep up the good work.

I've been on 100mg Zoloft for 9 years and have had no problems from it. I still suffer occasionally from anxiety/depression but those periods usually pass within a week. It has not helped with my claustrophobia, flying etc and I do get restlessleg syndrome now and then which might be a side effect of the medication. Took it through pregnancy with my second child, and he's a happy beautiful little boy.
Oops, forgot to mention that it was like hell on earth the first three weeks when I started taking Zoloft! The anxiety was so overpowering no words can explain it. After that I gradually got better and better but it took a few moths before I felt completely back to "normal"(I mean like I was before I first started to experience panic attacks):-)
