trazadone
I have used trazadone for a while now and here are some suggestions. Eat before you take it (doesn't have to be much) also, if you take it and start to feel the affects, go to bed immediately. One time I didn't and ended up staying up all night. I am not groggy at all in the morning, I am very pleased with it.
I have been using Trazadone for many years - I take 150 mg. For the most part I love it - no hangover or other side effects.
Occasionally I go through periods of waking up at 3am or so from anxiety. I was thinking of asking the doctor to change it to something else but thought I would try this program first.
Sometimes I take Melatonin if I have a few nights of trouble but it does not usually last too long so I don't make it a habit. I take the MElatonin about a half hour to an hour before the Trazadone, then I do some relaxation / breathing routines and then take the Trazadone.
I agree it is best to go to sleep right away - if I don't I have more trouble getting to sleep later.
Of course the other thing is that I really try to follow a regular sleep routine. With Fibro I feel so much worse if I don't get a good nights sleep which then adds to the anxiety.

I was prescribed trazadone a couple years back, and it had absolutely no effect ( don't remember the dosage). If I remember right, it's also used by recovering alcoholics- it makes them violently sick. For anyone who wakes up in the middle of the night, a controlled release works really well for me. I've also tried Rosereum (sp?), and I think if you haven't previously taken sleep Rx, it would work really well; it's also allededly non-addictive (evidently works on different part of the brain than all other sleep meds). Lastly, anyone try Lunesta? I used it 2-3 times and I think it put me in a coma (HA!). I felt AWFUL the next morning with headache/hangover symptoms. Oh, in addition to melatonin, tart cherries, passion flower (also somewhat helpful for mild anxiety), and triptaphan (the sleepy stuff found in turkey) can be found in health food stores, and my siblins have had great success with all. Does anyone get a good night's sleep? I'm really looking forward to eventually being off these meds, too. Anyone else?
Hi all. I'm having insomnia too. Last night was my second night with Lunesta and it did not work! The first night, I got 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep but last night it took me over an hour to fall asleep and then I kept waking up and staying awake for the rest of the night. I wonder if my md should start me on trazedone too?
How many mg of Lunesta did you take? It comes in 1,2,and 3 mg. 3 mgs. completely knocked me out, and my body is so accostumed to sleep meds it practically takes a horse tranqulizer to affect me. You might also want to ask your dr. about Ambien CR (controlled release). The majority of it hits you within 1/2 hour so you can fall asleep, then throughout the night the rest is absorbed so you can stay asleep. The ony bad news- it's more difficult to taper off, because they can't be cut in half.
Wishing you a night of peaceful, restorative, and uninterupted sleep.
