when I took paxil it was ok when I was on it, but whe I went off it gradually My panic attacks and anxiety came right back. I also had a seizure when weining myself slowly off of it like advised by my Dr. I actually had panic attacks and anxiety worse then before I went on it. So it was not a good experience for me. I couldn't, because of my experience, recommend anyone taking it. Everyone's mind and body reacts differently to medication. I do know that my therapist when I was seeing one was not for Paxil actually he was not for medication unless it was needed to function in everyday life. Medication is not a long term solution. Everyone is much stronger than they think they are. I think if you are taking it because you don't want to deal head on with your anxiety and using it as a crutch that is different than someone using it just to function so they can participate in life a little.

I am on paxil cr 12.5. I was on regular paxil for 3 years. Was switched to lexapro, for 1year. felt great so slowly weaned off. I did a vitimin program I learned abut on line. The withdrawls from Lexapro were awful too. I think they all are! I did after 3 months I felt ok, no more brain zaps. 6 months later my life fell apart. I had the worse panic season ever! Was out of work for months, lost weight. Couldn't function. My poor husband and kids, they were so confused. They never saw mommy like that. I am back on paxil. I have leveled out and I have felt pretty good for a year. I have also done the program which has helped so much!! I am so thankful to God for helping me though. I want to try again to get off the meds, but I have such a fear of what happened last time. It was weird because for 6 months I was fine off meds, and the boom, it just hit me out of the blue. I have so much to be thankful for, when I look back on those months of desperation and sadness, I cry.
To take meds or not is a personal choice. BUT if I could go back, I sure wish I wouldn't have started. I wish I could have done this program as a first resort, but I didn't know about it then.
I wish the best for you all!
Giving God the glory and praise,
Ivy

I was on Paxil for 1 year due to anxiety. From my personal experience I don't reccommend this drug to anyone. I had some pretty bad side effects; heartburn, nightmares, nausea. If I missed a dose I felt horrible. I wish my doctor would have warned me beforehand how potent this drug is. I have now weaned myself off of it.

Thanks for all your responses. It seems that Paxil works well for panic attacks but withdrawal may be an issue. I still believe the combination of drug therapy & cognitive behavioral therapy will give me the best chance to overcome this.
