Holly,

Magnesium Chloride has been known to help ease tension. It can be purchased at needs.com. It can be taken every day at low doses without problems. I take Ativan and magnesium.

I am taking .5mg tabs, but don't know if they make .25mg.

thank you all. I will do a half of .25. it'll be hard to cut and it may not always be the exact every time because it will be hard to cut. . the .25 i cut form my 1 mg's is already very small. . i think they do make a .25 in ativan. . i just dont want to have to pay again for another dr visit and more ativan. i already have two bottles full of the stuff. . i guess i wouldnt mind buying them but the dr visit is expensive and im sire if i tell my dr that i wanna do it this way and not his way he'll think i am just addicted and wont even prescribe me the .25 of it. he already thought it was absured that i have been taking it for 3 months. . .

Hi Holly,
You might want to check out the taper schedules at www.theroadback.org; I know they have a specific schedule for .25 ativan, and it's free. If you're having trouble navigating the website pm me; I can probably find it, or I can look it up in the workbook.

Here's the thing about benzo's... even if you've only been on one for a short time, they can be BEAST to come off. I DO NOT want to scare you, but my psych. weaned me in WAY too short of time- I wound up having a nervous breakdown and taking a 5 1/2 week medical-leave from work. HOWEVER, I had been taking xanax then ativan for over 8 years- this is not your case, and no you will most def. NOT go "nutzo" like me :D.

According to Mayo clinic, it is entirely possible to taper from benzo's COMFORTABLY, SAFELY and FOR LIFE. They key is go S L O W; this isn't a race- if you've been on ativan for 3 months, so what if it take you three months to get off and STAY OFF?!

Frankly, I've been pretty "loose" in weaning from ambien cr and zoloft, however when I start the klono. I will STRICTLY follow a specific schedule. I just saw my psych. on Tues. and when he wrote me a script through Dec., he said, "Maybe this will be the last prescription I'll ever write you." And you know what, that's my goal. Med-free by Christmas!

The other thing is if you find that the taper schedule is too slow and you're adjusting well, you can always pick up the pace for a couple days and see what happens.

Also, ALL drugs (esp. the psychotic and illegal- crazy, huh?!) have a profound affect on your body and brain chemistry. Consider this, the guidebook for psychiatric disorders (D-something???) states that if a person drops acid 5 or more times s/he is considered legally insane. The effect of this drug lurks for a lifetime; years after taking it a person can still have flashbacks. Clearly, acid is not ativan but similarly, there will still be traces of it in your body fat for a little while (I've been told it takes a month of cleansing for each month you used the drug. This is part of the reason I'm waiting for at least 6-8 weeks before I start to wean from klono.). Also, the fact that you've started with herbs/supplements is excellent, because they will help naturally support your body.

My final two cents is this: these drugs weren't called 'mama's little helper' and the Stones didn't write "19th Nervous Breakdown" for nothing. You want off FOR LIFE- take it easy on yourself, and you'll be just fine.
Take Care,
Emily

If the benzo are in your system for a while after stopping, what does that mean? Do you still feel the drug or what?

I really don't think you'll have withdrawl symptoms if you go slow and follow a schedule. If you start to feel crummy, bump back up to your past dose until you feel ready to taper again. Stay slow and steady and you'll totally make it- esp. with all the skills you've learned and the knowledge acquired.

No, I don't think you "feel" the drug, it just takes a little while for your body to naturally restore/metabolize itself to optimal helath. I only mentioned this for others who may have weaned off more than one drug- like me. The last ambien cr I took was the end of April; as much as I wanted to get off zoloft, I waited until the beginning of June to start reduction. Now that I'm off zoloft, I'll wait for my body to be "clean" of zoloft before I start to taper klono. I guess it just ensures better success at staying off the drug FOR GOOD. That's been my understanding, anyway.

I don't know if this makes sense or not??? Did you find the taper schedule for ativan? Honestly, you really don't have far to go in being off it completely :). Also, you're already seeing an herbal therapist, so you probably don't need the recommended supplements.

YOU CAN DO THIS... and so can I!

Hey Holly,

I just finished tapering off of klonopin and I am on my 11th day. I haven't really felt anything because I went very slowly, I can send you the schedule I used if your interested, I got it from a pharmacologist and it really worked well.

Yes John please send it. And Emily thank you so much for your reply. It made me feel better. seriously. I liked how you said if I start feeling crummy to back up to my higher dose until i feel better. I think that i should do that but iv been giving myself anxiety over doing that. I know i don't have an addictive personality with drugs but my anxiety and doubts make me think "what if" You know? I found where it says "pre taper off benzos. ." but it doesn't talk about the dosage. It says to take certain supplements while tapering off but don't know if i should if i am taking herbal supplements. . ??

Hi Holly,
Did John send you a taper schedule? I went to theroadback site and the ativan schedule has been removed(???). The schedules for klono, ambien, and several antidepressants are still posted and are free (chapter 18).

I also went to a couple other sites people had posted for tapering, and now everyone is charging and pushing their supplements- RIDICULOUS!

Anyway, I do have theroadback book and I know it has an ativan taper (that's what I originally ordered it for), so if you still want/need the schedule I can pm you or even post it here so everyone can see it for FREE!
