Hi Holly,
You might want to check out the taper schedules at www.theroadback.org; I know they have a specific schedule for .25 ativan, and it's free. If you're having trouble navigating the website pm me; I can probably find it, or I can look it up in the workbook.
Here's the thing about benzo's... even if you've only been on one for a short time, they can be BEAST to come off. I DO NOT want to scare you, but my psych. weaned me in WAY too short of time- I wound up having a nervous breakdown and taking a 5 1/2 week medical-leave from work. HOWEVER, I had been taking xanax then ativan for over 8 years- this is not your case, and no you will most def. NOT go "nutzo" like me

.
According to Mayo clinic, it is entirely possible to taper from benzo's COMFORTABLY, SAFELY and FOR LIFE. They key is go S L O W; this isn't a race- if you've been on ativan for 3 months, so what if it take you three months to get off and STAY OFF?!
Frankly, I've been pretty "loose" in weaning from ambien cr and zoloft, however when I start the klono. I will
STRICTLY follow a specific schedule. I just saw my psych. on Tues. and when he wrote me a script through Dec., he said, "Maybe this will be the last prescription I'll ever write you." And you know what, that's my goal. Med-free by Christmas!
The other thing is if you find that the taper schedule is too slow and you're adjusting well, you can always pick up the pace for a couple days and see what happens.
Also, ALL drugs (esp. the psychotic and illegal- crazy, huh?!) have a profound affect on your body and brain chemistry. Consider this, the guidebook for psychiatric disorders (D-something???) states that if a person drops acid 5 or more times s/he is considered legally insane. The effect of this drug lurks for a lifetime; years after taking it a person can still have flashbacks. Clearly, acid is not ativan but similarly, there will still be traces of it in your body fat for a little while (I've been told it takes a month of cleansing for each month you used the drug. This is part of the reason I'm waiting for at least 6-8 weeks before I start to wean from klono.). Also, the fact that you've started with herbs/supplements is excellent, because they will help naturally support your body.
My final two cents is this: these drugs weren't called 'mama's little helper' and the Stones didn't write "19th Nervous Breakdown" for nothing. You want off FOR LIFE- take it easy on yourself, and you'll be just fine.
Take Care,
Emily
