Wow... well you are all scaring me here. I just started taking zoloft Feb. 20th (3 weeks?) and it has helped with my anxiety and depression and I have lost a few pounds. I have no appetite, actually. I am hoping that this doesnt change. I have heard people lose wieght on zoloft and others gain. Whatever, if the meds are helping - take the meds and worry about the weight when you can cope.
Has anyone else started out losing weight on zoloft and then it started making them gain??
(I hope not!)

I have taken Zoloft for ten years. I did gain weight but then I joined TRIM and lost the weight. Then I went back to my regular eating habit and gained it back. Recently my father passed away and I got really depressed and anxious which makes me lose weight. I lost 20lbs. Since I've joined this program, I have been eating healthy and exercising and have not gained the weight back and it been 6 months. I think you really have to watch your food intake and really watch the portion control. Exercise is very important too.

Hi
I was on zoloft two years ago and gained at least 10 pounds but kept my weight under control with a healthy diet and daily work out at the gym.
I was off of the pill for about a year, as due to an acute crisis, I have been back on it since October. Because of the severe state of depression I was in, I lost 25 pounds leaving me to a skin and bones 100 pounds. Since I have been back on the zoloft and have gained my appetite back, I now weigh 111. My Dr. continues to inform me of the side effect of gaining weight and that sometimes it does take months to happen. Get walking, join a gym, eat lots of veggies, salads, and chicken. All of these things are helping me to control my weight. Plus I cut out all soda and coffee.

Hi,
I have been on Zoloft for several years and stopped it and got on Prozac. I got put back on Zoloft and I am on 200mg daily. I definitely gain weight on them. They say I have a chemical imbalance and I need them but I would love to wean off from all of it. My daughter is a third year medical student and is doing rotations with a psychiatrist and he loves Prestiq (unsure about spelling). He says it doesn't have the side effects that Zoloft does and it really helps. Supposedly it doesn't cause the weight gain and he says nausea might occur the first few days but otherwise, around 1% of the people taking it might have worse symptoms. I checked it on the computer and I plan on asking my doctor about it. I just hope the insurance company will cover it. This doctor that she is with is from Lexington, Ky and he travels to different places and talks to doctors about the medicine. Recently he was hired to go to Miami to a session there. My daughter also said he said if someone is depressed to have their level of D3 checked because it may be low and with the supplement we could feel better. I plan on that too.
Thanks, jcat

I think I have been prescribed so many different medications that I honestly would not know where to start in listing them. The most successful medication that I took however was Zoloft. I started at 50mg and felt an amazing improvement almost immediately. However, after 5 years I found myself to be 50 lbs heaver and on my original dosage times 4. The biggest side effect that I started to notice is that I was not sleeping. I would stay up and clean or do homework and then wake up early and start over. I didn't find it to be a problem but when my husband moved in he started to question how it was that I could keep going on 4 or 5 hours of sleep every night. The worst thing happened when I started to use the generic of Zoloft. The generic caused me to shake terribly. The first night I took it my husband woke me up because I was shivering in my sleep. It was after this that I started talking to my doctor about come off of the drugs. It took a while and I felt miserable but I have been off of them for almost two years. Right now I am dealing with a major relaps and I am considering returning to the medications as a tool to regain my confidence again that I can succeed in this. However, I know that I can live without drugs. Also since I have been off of the Zoloft I have been able to lose the 50 lbs plus an additional 20 that I was carrying around before.
