Hello,

I was just curious if anyone else had the same type of side effects as me when taking antidepressants. I have Generalized Anxiety disorder and have been on Xanax for some time. I have been on different antidepressents , but they all seem to have common side effects. It's really weird. My main issue is wit hthe anxiety, I feel like the anxiety induces the depression, so I thought taking an antidepressent would help. When I take them however, my anxiety symptoms change and when I feel anxious I can feel an intense tingling sensation in my teeth. Also it seems like when I am anxious , I feel more gittery and on edge. I am currently not taking any antidepressents only Xanax, and am starting the Attacking Anxiety program a second time since I did not finish the first time. The first time I took the program I was able to completely overcome the thoughts and anxiety. It slowly crept back into my daily life and since then I have been able to use what skills I have learned to keep it at an acceptable level. The problem is that I don't want to take xanax for the rest of my life. Not because I am afraid of taking medication, but becuase I want to live my life fully, and overcome the anxiety the right way. I would really appreciate anyones feedback about my problem. Thank you all for the support, it's good to know I am not alone.

Hi there.

I too have tried a few different SSRI's, currently on prozac, it's been te one with the least side effects for me. Zoloft made me nauseous, lexapro the same plus nightmares and sex issues, wellbutrin gave me energy but then i couldn't sleep. Sooo, prozac is the best so far, only mild sex issues. I'm on a low dose that i'm comfortable with. Is xanax more of a short term crisis drug or something you take everyday? It can take time to get drug free. My np told me I would be on drugs at least a year to reset my brain chemistry. I would have to feel stable for quite a while before attempting to go off. Just work on getting stable and feeling good, with drugs. Then you can talk to your doc about going off. If you need it to cope, that's okay. Cheers!

Medical doctors put me on all sort of antidepressants that made me violently ill and such nausea I couldn't eat for 6 months. I was on Xanax and got addicted. I found a naturpathic and homeopathic doctor who got me weaned off Xanax and it was hell. They now have me on numerous natural products and herbs which have helped enormously. I will not ever take prescription drugs again.

Alternative to Xanax are products made by Neuro Science called CALM PRT and Travacor also Chinese Tea Pill called An Shen Bu Xin Wan. These are all natural alternatives and work, just go online and research. Bachs Rescue Remedy also works

Gwendolyn,
There are some really good articles on my site that talk about a comparible solution to xanax and ativan. Although they are not homepathic, they are amino acids and they really do work.
I have used them myself.

Hi All,

I have read several posts on this forum that talk of the treatments with use of supplements, herbs, and homepathic remedies. I have done a little research using this web site: Among others

I ran across an article on a supplement call 5-HTP that was being used with some success to treat anxiety, insomia, nausea, ADD, etc. But as I read a little further on at the web site indicated, it was clear to me that 5-HTP and St. Johns Wort should not be taken when on many of the prescription medications that are commonly used to treat anxiety and depression.

I highly recommend that before taking any prescription medication or supplements while taking prescription medications, you visit the web site noted, as well as other using other helpful web sites such as: WebMd

or

NLM

I have tried to link you to NLM but for some dumb reason this server is not executing the link when it posts. I will have to contact the web site's technical support for this forum. Damn! Okay I linked you to the NLM home page. Now let's see if this on won't get truncated. If this works enter the med or supplement in the search field.

While there seem to be several good natural supplements to help in the treatment of Panic, Anxiety and Depression, and symtoms related to those indicated, you really have to do a lot of your own home work. You really don't want to do stuff that may bring on other problems if not done or used properly. On several pages you are advised to consult your doctor or pharmacist, that is a catch all waiver, because most in the medical profession do not know how most supplements work or what they do let alone tell you about interactions or side effects. It really is up to you to check these things out. The resources via the links I supplied is a great first step to arm yourself with information necessary to make informed decisions about how to approach treatment.

In a prior post I had mentioned the ill effects that I believe were brought on me while using Abilify, and provided the first link, but I don't know if people reading post really check into things, but repetition in these matters of doing due diligence is not a bad thing.

Hugs to all,
