It doesn't seem like I respond well to medication for anxiety except for benzos like xanax or klonopin. I have tried 3- lexapro, paxil, and effexor in the year and a half that I've had GAD with some social phobias. I've been on effexor 150 mg for 3 months and it isn't working. I don't have any depression except when I'm frustrated with this anxiety situation.
Does anyone have any advice or experience regarding medication for anxiety?

I feel the exact same way. My psych doc says I am depressed too, but I am depressed because of the anxiety and what it keeps me from doing and feeling. We did Klonopin alone for awhile, and it worked on the anxiety like a charm, truly my magic med, BUT.....its a benzo and I worried about dependency, maybe it might stop working, etc. so we are trying Lexapro now as an add on in hopes that maybe in a month or so, we can taper down and stop benzos completely by years end......no hurry. He gets me, and is patient, and there truly are people out there that seratonin is NOT the problem. I started on Klonopin .5mg am / .5mg noonish / and 1mg at bedtime. Since starting the Lexapro almost a month ago, I've weaned my am dose to .25 and have felt no side effects. FYI I am only on 5mg of Lexapro because I find the SSRI's cause anxiety in the beginning as a side effect and then it makes you feel like nothing is working right. PM anytime, and best of luck.
