Yesterday. I went to the DRs. for a urinary tract infection and he presecribed avelox. An hour after I took it I got light- headed, dizzy and my blood pressure shot up. From that episode it brought on extreme anxiety. Has anyone else had any side effects from this drug?

As a matter of fact yes I have. My DR perscribed it to me about 6 months ago. The first time I have ever took this antibiotic. I had extreme anxiety on it and had to stop it because of it. It actually gave me panic attacks, so your not alone. Discuss this with your DR, and in the future just ask for some other antibiotic other than Avelox.

Elaine, Wow, I had the same reaction to Avelox about a year ago. I had bronchitis and my dr prescribed it. I took one pill and I felt like the walls were closing in and I went into a panic attack. I stopped taking it immediately and called the dr and had him prescribe something else. It's amazing what certain meds can do to you! My aunt also took Avelox a few years back and ended up in the emergency room because she felt so much anxiety and felt like she couldn't breathe. My advice is to get off it immediately and call the dr to get a different med.
