Is anyone trying to wean off an anidepressant?
weaned off zoloft about a year ago. Just keep reducing the amount you take very slowly over a period of time. They also make a liquid form of paxil that will enable you to make smaller reductions if you experience bad withdrawals.
I also found the book "the antidepresasnt solution" by joseph glenmullen helpful as it gives specific case studies and instructions for weaning. You might even find something on the internet if you search for weaning instructions. But also work with your Dr with this information.

I weaned off of Paxil Last memorial day wknd! I was only on 10 mg of the generic actually, but, I still went every other day for like aleast a week, then every two days for another week, then every three days for a week etc. etc. A time before that I just completely stopped (as per my DOCTORS advice!) and a few wks later--bam, I got so messed up. I didn't tell my doctor I was going off and I would never advise someone to do that, but my doctor believed at such a low dose, you didn't need to wean off and she's completely wrong. (I talked to about 5 pharmicists who said that wasn't true). I felt confident to get off the antidepressant b/c I was almost finished with the program at the time and I was really starting to understand my anxiety. So far, I've been doing really good. Good Luck.

Yeah, I'm starting Prozac to help with the withdrawal so I can get off the paxil. Once I'm even'd out better chemically i plan to get thru the program and determine when and if I'll wean off the Prozac.
Thanks for your support karmerri

I'm not weaning totally off, but am weaning down on Prozac. I was on 60 mg, and have been down to 40 mg for a month. I'll try going down to 20 mg in another week until I deliver my baby in April. The lower the dose at delivery the less chance the baby will have withdrawal. But it is scary to do when I was finally feeling normal again. Keep us posted on how you are doing...
How have you been doing weaning down on the prozac? Any problems?Originally posted by BTTRFLY:

Going from 60 mg to 40 mg has been okay, have not noticed much difference. Maybe a slight increase in anxiety, but I am also nearing the end of this pregnancy so some of that I'm sure is hormones, etc. I'm thinking the real test will be going down to 20 mg, cause that is such a low dose. BUT--no withdrawal in terms of nausea, headaches, etc., no physical symptoms. So that is good.
