I've tried several meds still anxious..any advice,support?
I have tried prozac, lexapro, effexor, and now zoloft with not much effect. The zoloft has helped the most but I definately don't feel 100 percent. I am feeling really discouraged like nothing is going to help me. It would really help to hear from someone who went through this and eventually found an answer or even someone who is still going through something similar right now.
I did go through the program several years ago and it did help me pretty much eliminate panic attacks, and to this day I no longer have them. It's the obsessive thoughts and GAD that I can't quite gain control over.

I'm just like you. I have been on every antidepressant and more. Right now I'm on pristiq, it's knew fda approved in feb. I have been on it for about 4 weeks and got my cd's back out and I haven't had any panic attacks, I have more energy, my obsessing thinking has decreased. I researched the drug before I started taking it.
Good luck to u

was doing great on zoloft - 150 mg. took couple of months to find the right dose.
Now I am on effexor. 300 mg Just had my first good day in a long time. Getting over side effects was hard, but they seem to be dissipating.
I am also trying to eat well, take meds at night to get into good sleeping habits, spending time with people who are positive, and going to my Dr. regularly as well as a psychologist who has been giving me some relief and strategies for dealing with my particular issues.
Meds alone will never be a cure, but keep trying different things - if things feel good to you - or make you feel good - do those things more.
YOU CAN DO IT

I agree with Gloria, Kundalini yoga (a little known type of yoga) and various breathing techniques including the breath of fire have helped me tremendously with anxiety. A website I like is raviana.com There is a DVD called Yoga Quick Fixes with a six minute anxiety antidote portion that works for me every time. Good luck!Originally posted by Gloira:
You may try a breathing technique that helped me. It's called Breath of Fire. YOGIJIM.COM offers free online exercises of kundalini yoga. You don't have to do the exercises if you don't want to, just the breathing part. Try it and see if it works for you.
That aside, the medications you mention sounds like anti-depressants to me, which may or may not help the obsessive thoughts and GAD. They did not help me with obsessive scary thoughts or GAD, I actually felt worse. Talk with your doctor about it.

When at my lowest of lows, i was beyond "just an antidepressant" which only a psychiatrist knows. Your reg doctor will only give antidepressants because they are often afraid of benzos, and won't do long term Rx. The truth is, Benzos are strong, scary, VERY addictive, but sometimes 100 percent necessary to get over a hump or out of a hole. Anti depressants tend to increase anxiety when first started and it can last for weeks. I take Klonopin with Lexapro and have started a very successful wean off the Klonopin now. I was hospitalized during my low, and NOTHING helped. My psych knew what to do, and was NOT afraid to do it. I was as high as 2.5mg of Klonoping a day, and now am down to .75 through VERY SLOW weaning, and my Lexapro is up to 10mg a day. I am a person again, exercising, back at work, spending time outside my bedroom, etc. I can't stress how important it is to find the right doctor, psychs are the way to go in my opinion. God bless.

Im deciding whether or not I should start looking into taking perscription drugs to help with my depression. I feel as if they are not going to help and only make me dependent of them, Im not a big fan of taking anything thats not natural either. does anyone have advice or suggestions on how I should go about this?
thank you

I took zoloft 2 years ago, although it took several weeks to get used to I did have great results. When I started getting anxious 2 months ago my dr. put me on it again but I had the same problem with getting used to it so he switched me to effexor which I do not like because it made me loose my appetite. I would like to go back to the zoloft. Does anyone know how long you have to wait to make the switch between meds?

Meds are not a cure all, but if you give them time to start working (whicvh cna take months in some people) and are on the correct dose for you they are very effective.
I think many people want them to work right away and when they dont they switch too soon. This all takes time. I have been on 10mg of Lex for 5 months and feel great, but it took awhile to feel like this and even now I have some days I just feel blah, but that it life, there are ups and downs, even on meds you need to learn to cope with the everyday struggles of life.

Hello Everyone,Does anyone know how long you have to wait to make the switch between meds?
Well my doc switched me immediately from one to another. I never had any bad reactions to this. I was on 4 different AD's over the years and she would just say it's not working anymore and try me on another with no in between waiting.
I think some doctors are different from each other so it's a question I'm sure your doc will have his or her own thought about this.
Hope that helped even a little.
Good Luck and God Bless
