Hi,

Has anyone heard of gericare or it can be known as geriforte? Any idea of how they work with prescription ssri's. I have been on antidepressants for many years now and eventually would like to try something natural only. A few years ago I tried 5 htp with effexor and it just made me nauseous. I have also used Sam-e and had good results with less obssessive thoughts, but it keyed me up and I couldn't sleep at night. Today I just tried L-Theanine which I guess I will have to see how I feel after a few days, but I have read that it can decrease seratonine levels in the brain and seems to contradict what Paxil (which I am on right now) does. If anyone has any thoughts/experiences please let me know. Thanks.

Keep with the post, and even look back. There are several people on here who have wonderful knowledge of natural remedies, but a lot of people get busy and don't read or post for awhile. Look back at other posts and see if you find a name, then try to PM. I do know that 5 htp with SSRI's is a NO NO....the rest I don't know. I take 500mg of Magnesium a night to relax while weaning off Klonopin. That's about as natural as I go right now. Best of luck, and don't give up on answers.

Thanks for the response. It's interesting that you mention 5 htp with ssri's is a no no. A few years ago an MD and also a natural rememedies doctor prescribed it for me with effexor which I was on at the time. It made me sick to my stomach. I just bought some a Whole foods tonight thinking maybe I just had a bad brand. I figured I would try it again. Now I am going to do more research on it.

It's just that they basically do the exact same thing. And your seratonin receptors are in the lining of your gut as well as your brain and that is why many many people get upstet stomachs from SSRI's in the beginning. It just attaches to closest most convenient receptors, and overdoing it with 5htp I would think can lead to too much. Best of luck.

I second not using 2 things to boost seratonin. There is something called Seratonnin Syndrome, which can be deadly. So please talk with your doctor and be careful!!

Take care,
Ocean
