I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about Zoloft. I have been taking 25 mg for one week and about to increase to 50 mg. I am still feeling the same (anxiety, depression, panic). My doctor told me it will take weeks to work. Also, i have been taking it in the evening after dinner, but have been waking up a lot at night. The doctor told me to switch it to the morning, but i am scared it will make me drowsy at work. Any suggestions?

Hi Rosie4!
I hope this helps! I also started on 25mg and went to 50mg for about a month now. I was taking them in the morning, however it made me really sluggish all day so I take it right before bedtime now and it seems to be getting better.

Hi Rosie and Blessed Mom:

I was on Zoloft for the last while till switching now due to nausea and dosage (25 wasnt enough and 50 was too much i think) but I took them at night and they helped me sleep. I would suggest keeping with it as it gets into your system it will level out- however, I do know Celexa really disturbed my sleep.. everyone is different!

good luck!

Hi everyone
I take 100mg of zoloft..50mg in the morning and 50mg at night. It does't make me too drousy. Maybe your body is just adjusting to the meds. I also take 1/2 mg of xanex at night to calm my running thoughts and OCD.

Hi Rosie4,
I have been on Zoloft for about 4 years. I LOVE IT. Stick with it. I was so afraid to take it. My doctor told me to quit pissing in the wind and TAKE IT.... I am so gratful for her. I would cut every little pill in half. I took 50 mgs. for a couple of years and recently bumped it up to 100. Lots of stuff going on in my life. 100 mgs is normal. I know people on 200mgs. But what I want to tell you is I do stuff I have been afraid to do for years. I fly, white water raft, drive alone out of town. I even have a bumper sticker that says "Thank God For Zoloft". Every time I do something out of the norm, my kids say, Thank God For Zoloft. It has given me my life back. Stick with it. I am 58 and love life again. I still have anxiety and my negative thinking is real bad right now. I need to work on that. But zoloft, for me, gave me the push I needed to get going again.
Hope this has helped you.

Hi,
Thank you so much for your feedback. It makes me feel better hearing positive things about medication (especially when you are so afraid to take it). I am waiting for the day that i will feel 'normal' again.

Cathy Jo,

I am really glad to hear Zoloft worked wonders for you. My doctor switched me from 20mgs of Paxil, onto 100mgs of Zoloft. I still haven't felt much relief from it, but it's only been about 2 and a half weeks, and I constantly hear it takes time. I hope Zoloft works for me like it has for you. I would love to have my life back and be able to enjoy living again without constantly having to worry about any and everything.

And Rosie, I too am afraid of taking my medications. I force myself to do it though because I have to believe the doctor wouldn't give me anything that would harm me.

Hi Rosie- I am in pharmacy school currently and will be graduating next year as a Pharmacist so maybe I can add to this conversation.

Any of the medications like Zoloft will take about 4 weeks to 'fully' work. So in the beginning you might not feel much. But if you take it regularly, you will feel better. As for when to take it, The morning will be best for Zoloft because it shouldn't cause drowsiness, it should actually cause more alertness/wakefulness. But whatever works best for you:)

How does one deal with the nausea that antidepressants cause--especially for someone with a sensitive stomach? I've tried Lexapro and Zoloft, but both make me so nauseous. I know they say it will pass in time, but I'm so sick at my stomach anyway, that more than a few minutes with nausea makes me not want to take it again. It seems like if I take it at night, I'm sick the next day and if I take it in the morning, I'm sick all day.

Thanks for any helpful advice.

I currently have been raised to 200 mg of Zoloft. It does take several weeks to feel a difference. I have had no side effects and have been taking it for 5 years. The dosage has been increased over the years. The best time to take it is in the morning. I did take it at night and I was having trouble sleeping. Now it is better taking it in the morning.
