hello...
I have been taking paxil for 9 years for anxiety/panic disorder. When it was given to me, I wasn't thinking about pregnancy or wanting to have children. Now, 9 years later, I am married for 3 years and want to start a family. I have tried to come off of the paxil but it hasn't been successful. I tried to switch to zoloft (whic they claim is safer) and that didn't work. When speaking with my psychiatrist and OBGYN, it is highly suggested that I don't take the paxil while being pregnant. I don't know what to do. Has anyone been on paxil and pregnant? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do? Any guidance would be greatly appreciate.

Hey JTC, I wanted to let you know that I think you should listen to your doctors about the paxil. Every antidepressant has its risk while pregnant but some are safer than others. For example, prozac and zoloft are both alot safer than paxil. Trust me when I say that pregnancy can be rough but you can get through it just like everything else. Our thoughts are powerful and as long as you give yourself positive affirmations I think you will be just fine. When I first found out I was pregnant I was a mess but here I am 30 weeks into it and feeling alot better. Don't get me wrong, I worry about things, but not like I used to. She is coming out and there is nothing I can do to stop it and at this point even though I am scared, I also can't wait to meet her. If your husband is like mine and gives you lots of support I think that everything will be ok. Talk to your doctor about what is best for the baby and go from there. No matter what you decide, it will be what is best for you in the present moment!!!! If you ever want to talk, I am here.

Thanks Amy,

I really appreciate your words of advice. I am actually going to see a new doctor since I just moved to Austin so I will see what he says. I am nervous to be on medication when I am pregnant but nervous not to be on anything. I worry that when I do get pregnant, I will be terrified about everything, especially about giving birth. I am glad to hear that you are doing much better now that you are at 30 weeks, that gives me hope. I know what it is like to have a supportive husband and we are very fortunate. I hope all goes well with you and your pregnancy. Thanks again for the words of encouragement. Please keep me updated on your progress.
