Klonopin and Celexa
Went to my Dr and she took me off of Valium and gave me klonopin and celexa. I am alitle confused. I used valium once in a while. Now I have to take klonopin every night along with the celexa. What exactly is klonopin and its role on anxiety. I know I could just look it up but I promised her that I wouldn't research these meds and to just take them. Thats the plan to start them Friday night. But when all said and done am I going to have to withdraw from both meds?

From what I know, both are anti anxiety meds, Klonopin and Valium are very similar, not sure why she switched you. Both are long acting, and create a therapeutic level so that you don't get breakthrough anxiety like with xanax and ativan. At first it may make you tired, but that wears off in a few days, and the calm is so nice for a change. I take Klonopin and am currently on my wean down, I also take Lexapro. It can be done, and yes, you will eventually need to stop taking them, or should. They can be very habit forming, and you can get tolerant to them, also Valium as well. My guess would be that her goal is to get you at a level of meds so that your anxiety does not break through, stay there while you heal and look for alternate ways to deal with stress, and then hopefully she will help you taper down. My only suggeston is do it SLOW, no matter what she says you "should" be able to handle, do it "SLOW"!!!! I was on 2mg a day for months, and am tapered down now to 0.525mg a day (I took mine in 3 doses, then down to am and pm doses of .25 and .375 mg), I drop about .125mg every 10 to 14 days. I hope to be off around the end of January. Best of luck. And Klonoping DID save my life, so I won't say bad things about it...but many will. Your best bet is NOT to research it, people love to tell horror stories.

Yeah that sounds right. She did mention that the valium is short acting and since I was only taking it once in a while for muscle spams she wanted me to be relaxed for a while. My muscles in my neck and back are constanly in spasm due to the anxiety. So I guess thats where the klonopin comes in. As far as the celexa she said it will help with the OCD and the anxiety along with the hidden depression. So I can rest assure that the klonopin is like valium, and or xanax but longer acting?
