I have been dealing with anxiety for years. I am trying everything- the program, i have a therapist, vitamins herbs. I am at a point that i am feeling very helpless. I tried to check myself in to the hospital for help but they didnt think I needed to be. I have a prescription for lexapro and am terrified to take it. But I have reached a point where I think I need it. I have so many fears with anti depressants like bad reactions allergic reactions, long term effects, it is a real happiness as a result, will i still be myself, will i need it for ever. The list goes on. Does anyone else feel like this and is there any suggestion on plan to start taking them.

If you strongly feel that you can't handle your anxiety on your own, it's ok to use the SSRI. Lexapro is one of the better ones to use. Don't worry about using it if you have to. It will give you relief (after about 2 or 3 weeks) from your anxiety. However, it will be helpful to realize that using meds to control your condition should be a temporary situation. During the medication time, after your body settles down and gets used to it, you will likely feel pretty normal except that you may be a bit more lethargic. Use this time wisely to develop your CBT skills so you can start to wean off the medication as soon as reasonably possible. It's best if you can keep the medication period to 6 months or less but hopefully not more than a year. Either way, you don't need to be too concerned about using the medication. If you really need it, go ahead and use it, and don't worry about it. It will help you. You will be fine.
One more thing, if possible, before you start on medication, try getting a large amount of exercise every day for a week and see how you feel. Its been proven the getting enough exercise can accomplish the same thing as the medication!
God Bless you and peace be with you.
