so my doctor warned me about researching online because what i read will scare me. He is right! I am reading good and bad things about zoloft and the bad things are scaring me. I just increased my dose to 75 mg (i'm taking baby steps). I have been on the zoloft for a little over a month. I still don't feel good! Now that i am reading negative things about the zoloft, and i feel like it's not right for me. How much time do i give it. I don't want it to make me feel worse. It's so frustrating. Please tell me there is a light at the end of the tunnel!!!

HI Rosie,

trust me sister if you were going to feel worse you would by now. I had a bad reaction to the last med I took was the most horrible thing I have been through thus far, it made me suicidal and non-functional (I did GREAT on zoloft but struggled with the dosage)nonetheless, stop reading bad things! of course there is going to be risks, anything that works there is risk involved! keep confident and open minded, I promise you you will be ok!

Best wishes,

Rosie,

have you been on an antidepressant before? perhaps that change you are looking for is not going to happen (everyone thinks the med will make them feel happy and MUCH better or a different person), I find meds only help 'take the edge off' by helping me not cry uncontrollably, not make me really grumpy, or suicidal.. they dont help drastically or 'make me happy'.. perhaps adjusting your expectations and realities will help with the med?

Rosie,

I have read negative things about every medication I have ever taken. It's scary at first, but if you have been taking them for over a month, none of scary rare side effects are going to happen now. They would have came on when you first started the meds. So you are in the clear! Just give them time to get through your body and start working.

First off, Maeggie's right. An antidepressant won't magically 'make you happy.' They just help with 'taking the edge off.'

It's okay to read about side effects just in case you begin to experience the adverse side effects, you can promptly let your doctor know. SO STAY INFORMED! (Doctors just fear patients will read too much and begin to obsess over every little feeling they may have, which is especially difficult for people with A&D.)

Don't be afraid. 75mg is a low amount and you may not be on the dosage that's going to make the difference for you.

Usual Zoloft/Sertraline dosage range is between 50 - 200mg/day.

Any med takes 4 - 6 weeks to reach theraputic effects.
