Health Advice Please
Ok, so I'm very unhealthy. I'm almost 17, 5' 11'', almost 300 lbs, but am very strong. I know I can still make a change for the better and that's why I'm here. I need help making good diet restrictions, exercise recommendations, and vitamin/mineral suggestions. I am always tired, and my lower back hurts. I don't eat too much junk food, and just stopped drinking soda. I work next to a specialty pharmacy that just opened and a farmers market. Anything will be helpful. Thanks

Monzo - quitting soda will make a big difference!
If you don't eat much junk food - do you know why you weigh almost 300 lbs? For someone who's only 17, and doesn't eat much junk food, that seems strange. Maybe for the first week, just stay off the soda and invest in a calorie-counting lookup book, and keep a log of how many calories you're eating? Can't hurt to eat more fruit and vegetables, too.
But I'm thinking after a week or two of food log, if you're not already losing weight, you might want to consult a doctor.
There's a nutrition discussion in the Session 5 guidebook.

My weight has always been more of a psychological issue than physical. But I can tell u that at one point, I had gained more than 40 pounds from simple depression eating. I'm 5'3, was about 18 years old, ans weighed in around 160 lbs. I know that's not too extreme, but it would have gotten much worse had I not decided to make real changes immediately. I cut down on the soda intake, stopped all fast food except subway, salads with low fat dressing, and grilled chicken with no mayo of course. The biggest difference was the Lean Cuisines. I ate toast or biscuits and jelly for breakfast, had some orange juice and fruit, then ate lean cuisines most of the time. The trick is, eat some wheat bread and a hearty salad before the dinners, and a great yogurt after! U get a whole meal that way and don't feel like ur cheating urself out of anything! Snacks, I ate pretzels, low fat chips, etc. I didn't count calories, or make a special diet for myself, I just cut out fat from my diet. After 3 months, I had lost 30 lbs, and eventually got down to below my starting weight! 5 years later, I've kept it off just by managing the foods I intake. Have u talked to ur doctor about possible thyroid problems or medications that could help along the way. Hang in there! Hope some of this helps!
