In December 2006 I was put on Lexapro for mild depression. I started with 5 mg for a week, bumped up to 10 mg and then eventually 20 mg. From Day One with the first 5 mg tab, I never had any side effect. In fact I never had any issue with the med throughout the time I was on it (until September 2007.)

I started taking the 5 mg Lexapro on Monday for mild depression (again thanks to work ). The three days I am on it, I felt small bouts of anxiety, mostly in the morning after taking it. I know feeling anxious can be a brief side effect.

Why did I have no problem over a year ago and now I have the anxiety effect?

Thanks.

I have been on Lexapro for 6 years @20mg/2/day.
This followed 15 yrs on Prozac @40mg/day.
I still have ome anxiety and am therefore on the program. I wonder sometimes if I should change meds again. I am having TIA strokes due to ANXIETY. The doc says-quit worrying---easier said than done----right?????

Unfortunately medications alone will not provide a permanate fix for anxiety or depression. They really only mask the problem. Sort of like the shot the dentist gives you before working on your teeth.
Seek out various CBT solutions. That is the only thing that will give you a long term 'fix' for these conditions.
I used Google and did an extensive search for information about GAD (my issue) and I found a wealth of useful data. I used numerous solutions, reading books, listening to tapes & CDs, relaxation exercise DVDs (Chi Gong), plus just reading hundreds of pages of relevent stuff on the internet.
I guess what I'm saying here is to take charge of your own recovery process and don't just rely on drugs to solve these conditions. As hard as it is to accept (it was and still is very hard for me to accept) these conditions are caused by our own reactions to the world around us. That's why we need CBT. It's not always easy but it's the only way to get over this and start leading a normal life again.
Sorry if I come accross as preaching, I don't mean to. I am in the same boat as you folks are. It's a struggle but it is do-able. God Bless and peace be with you.
"O God, you are my God. Earnestly I seek you;my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is BETTER than life,my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands." Psalms 63

You got that right , Nana P.

Don 56,

You didn't come across preachy at all.
As hard as it is to accept (it was and still is very hard for me to accept) these conditions are caused by our own reactions to the world around us.
You're right. I am in sad physical and emotional conditions because of work--my reaction to the BS going on.

I definitely don't want to rely on meds totally, just temporarily until the CBT/therapy kicks in.

God bless to you. Peace? Trust me--I need it. And He will give it and help me.
