Hey guys!I'm just wandering how those of you that take klonopin are doing? Is it helping much?I'm currently taking Xanax Er 1mg three times a day.Not helping that much.I've read that klonopin stays in your system longer and is easier to wean off of.I was also told that I could switch right to the klonopin from the xanax. This kinda scares me though because I've been on the Xanax for almost 2 years everyday.Any posts back on this would really help me.Thank you!
I take ativan instead of xanax and it is amazing. No side affects what so ever. Every body reacts to meds differently so you have to find what works for you. I wouldn't be afraid though, as these meds are in the same family and usually if you can tolerate one well, you will mostly likely do well with the other.

Hi
Xanax never worked for me. Klonopin is very helpful and it kicks in quickly. The only problem I ever had with it is that my body gets used to it and I end up needing to increase my dose over time. I never had any problems getting off of it. When I felt it stopped working for me I told my doc and he just had me cut down over a week or so until i was on nothing. I hope it works for you; it's helped me out on occasion. I still take it occasionally because for me taking it every day makes it stop working.
Hope this helped.

i was on xanax for awhile (at least a couple of years) and it was working fine for me. then, i had a pretty severe panick attack and a friend suggested Klonopin. (very low loses of both)
i had no problem switching over. but i do think Klonopin may be more addictive.
with both i have been i have been advised that i can cut in half or double up. the doubling up is reserved for very special circumstances (maybe 3 times a yr.).

Hi There, well, i feel awkward suggesting meds to folks who are in the program in hopes of getting off them, but i know the gammet and i know it well. Xanex never worked as well for me as valium, 10 mgs. I formed a tollerance for valium though and started rotating valium, xanex, klonopin. valium is much more helpful for my actuall panic attacks, i have insomnia and most of my attacks are at night, valium is the only med that actually stops my attack and usually helps me get to sleep. it is addictive but in moderation helps the onset of attacks (for me).I find the klonopin is more helpful for high anxiety days or boughts. The onset is mild and as you were told last for up to 6 hours (or so). I don't find it helpful for stopping an attack, but if anxiety is high it may help advert one. Personally the klonopin worked better for me then the xanex. But!!! the klonopin makes me irratable after it wears off, well at least thats after months of taking it for long periods of time. Its not recommended for more then 2 weeks at a time either. Hope your DR. told you this!!! It's deffinetley not a resolution med.(none of these are) I'm in the process of weening off my nuerotin and occasionalyy still take klonopin on hard days, but the after effect kinda stinks at this point. To much information? sorry, but I hope it helps a bit. Oh Yeah, ask you Dr. about Neurontin, generic; Gabapentin. it's a different type of half life med, easy on, easy off.. Good luck to you and all of us who struggle with medications!!
