I was diagnosed with mono in January 2005. I had to work during it, and at one point I felt so bad and tired I cried and said I wanted to die. It did force me to slow my life down - I had been working one full time job (for 14 years) and one part time job (for 4 of the 14 years). I never thought I could quit the part time job, but I just told them I had to because of my health. They kept trying to get me back, but I stood firm.
Does anyone else have a problem with itching - especially of the areas of the ankles, wrists, knees, stomach and bottom of feet? I went to 4 different types of doctors - my male GYN diddn't care because it wasn't a female problem, my male primary care doctor said I was crazy if I thought that had anything to do with having mono.
My female dermotologist sympathized with me and gave me a great antihistamime (i had been taking about 10 Benedryl a day to help stop the itching, and slapping on hydrocortisone cream), however she neglected to tell me that this pill is also used to help people gain weight, which I did.
I got a new female primary care doctor and she prescribed zyrtec, which is very expensive but works well.
My itching finally stopped without having to use a pill after about 1 1/2 years. But it only stopped for about 6 months. I am itching again and back on the Benedryl.
I did a lot of my own research on the internet, and found lots of articles that mention itching as a long lasting condition of mono. Has anyone else had this problem?
I have that

I had Mono in 2006. I am 34 now, man it was awful......I think it was due to our resistance being low from stress. I experienced 4 months of tirdnedd, weakness in my body, aches and pains....awful, I do get itchin on my feet and arms, but I always think it's the anxiety. Zyrtec is a great antihistamine, but gave me GI problems. Right now I am taking prednisone a small dose for the next 6 days, only cause my body gets stiiff and aches and pains throughout the body. Strange, but true. I really don't know what this is from.Confused and heart broken......
