MBS,

I have had a little of this. Not so much the DP, but I have had moments of DR. For me, I just try to remember that I"m here and all is OK.

There's another post thread on this subject and someone posted a link to this site that explains DP/DR pretty well.

Hi MBS,
I also suffer from DR and have 24/7 since Nov 2006. Yes it is extreemly difficult to deal with. I started a post @ the end of March and got some very useful information. It is also under Depersonalization & Derealization. Please check it out. It helped me out. It is part of anxiety and will go away once you work on the anxiety. I still have (on week 5) but I have noticed a difference. It takes time but have faith the program works. Good luck from someone that understands.

This has to be one of the most, if not the most, frequently posted issues on this forum.

*********************************************
I originally posted the following in a different thread.

It's called derealization/depersonalization; perfectly normal it is a symptom of anxiety nothing more (some common themes that go along with this are: "I feel like I'm going crazy" "Everything feels cloudy" "I feel dizzy, faint and tired" "The familiar seems unfamiliar" "I feel like I'm dreaming" "I feel like I'm floating or out of my body."

Most people experience this, even children do, when children begin to realize that they are seperate from others (its the old philosophical question you may have asked yourself as a kid "Who am I" this will spring off depersonalization almost immediately or the question "Is any of this real maybe my whole life is just a dream.." this springs off derealization)

The key is to just flow with it and let it be; it will surpass it always does (it is not dangerous, in fact it is a saftey mechanism used by your brain). Your brain is just tired of running around all day and worrying. If you want some good articles to read about it I can dig them up. Let me know, but don't worry it is a perfectly normal brain function especially present with anxiety disorders.

I found that running and lifting was the best cure for this when I had it. Also, you should be taking some supplements especially a b-complex and some Omega 3, these will also help to lessen the occurance of this symptom.

-----------------------------------------------

You can find out more about this at these following links:

<A HREF="http://www.anxman.org/depersonalization ... zation.asp" TARGET=_blank>http://www.anxman.org/depersonalization ... ion.asp</A>

<A HREF="http://www.panic-anxiety.com/depersonal ... zation.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.panic-anxiety.com/depersonal ... ion.htm</A>

<A HREF="http://www.panic-anxiety.com/depersonal ... zation.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.panic-anxiety.com/depersonal ... ion.htm</A>

Also, don't start googling these terms either because there is a lot of misinformation about them. Furthermore, they can be symptoms of other disorders, but it is almost always the anxiety they have with their disorder that causes the feeling, and/or thoughts/delusions caused by their disorder that invoke the feeling. Either way it is not dangerous at all and is something that almost everyone has experienced in their life whether consciously recognizing it or not.

Letting it be is the best solution; don't try and make it go away because this will more than likely intesify the feeling. When you keep telling yourself that it is a danger and you fear it; your brain remembers this and when the feeling comes to the surface again it almost immediately relates the feeling as being an intense danger.

As with all the issues with anxiety you need to reprogram your thoughts and by reprogramming your brain to realize this is not a threat, it takes time, it will no longer be of any concern to you. Then and only then will the anxiety disipate and you will not experience this un-settling feeling.

-- I'd encourage you to use the search feature on the forum and just type in derealization. There are a million posts about this already, I'm sure you will find comfort in them.
