thoughts sticking (help)

hey guys im having lots of trouble lately and need some help. it seems my mind holds on to every thought i think, its like my brain is monitoring its own thoughts. everything sticks and makes me more anxious. its a feeling of being trapped in my own mind. i cant seem to turn the thoughts outwards their all inwards. its affecting my sleep, im unable to sleep now cuz my thoughts race around all the time, especially when im sleeping. if my mind had a switch to turn off all this mind chatter and constant thinking i would be fine. advice?

Believe it or not, Manley, you are resisting the thoughts. The very fact that you don't want them there is resistance, and with this type of attitude they will "stick". They won't hurt you but you'll feel miserable because you are fighting them. Practice allowing the thoughts to come and go - visualize a passing cloud if that helps, but do let them come and go without your emotional attachment to them. They are just thoughts. They won't hurt you and allowing them to be there is NOT a call to action. Just allow them their passage and you will experience less tension and less thoughts. Practice this all the time. Breathe in and hold for four, breathe out slowly and keep your attention on your breath, or on your heartbeat, or on a pretend dot on your forehead. You do not have to talk to these thoughts. Don't talk back to them. Just watch them come and go. Come back to your breath when thoughts try to grab you in.

Boon...I totally agree with you...If you resist any negative thought it will stick to you like glue...Just observe the thoughts as they float in and out of your consciousness...Do not judge them...I find this strategy also very useful in other aspects of my life, such as, dealing with my emotions...Just accept my negative feeling, observe it..float with it, and don't give it any weight...I just accept my feelings, and know that they will pass...I just accept them for what they are...Nothing more...Nothing less...
