Hi there-

I am having an elective surgery and find that my worries are changing from day to day. When I get one thing figured out, my mind seeks another problem to obsess about. The latest is the sedation anesthesia. Any experiences like this out there or any words of wisdom? I am 45, healthy and fit with no chronic conditions. The doctor wouldn't do the surgery if he felt there were risks associated (i.e. they turn people down sometimes)

Hello:
I have had a number of surgeries. So have been put under a number of times also. I have had no trouble with the anesthesia. I was just a wee bit sick afterwards the last time. but didn't last anytime at all. The sickness was over in less than an half hour I believe. i threw up mildly only once.
But before that I was put under 6 or 7 times before and it didn't faze me much. I was 80 this last time and that may have made a difference.
My daughter gets sick and vomits from it. Both my daughters do , I think. But I never did.
I don't think it lasts long.
This last time, Jan. 6th, I had a single mastectomy. I don't know how long I was out but I think my son said about 2 or 2 1/2 hours.
I've had back surgeries and gall bladder (when they did it the old fashioned way and cut you opne. LOL). Had my spleen out in 2002 but they did that the modern way. Just made a little hole. But they put me to sleep.
I really think you will be fine.
I wouldn't worry about it.
Any way , wish you the best!!!!

Thanks MaryJane. I was trying to think of how I could look at it differently-- and I came up with how fortunate I am to be around when they have anesthesia. Not the old way of whisky or just tying you down.

I'll practice my deep breathing and positive self talk when the "what ifs" come. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
