Hey guys,

I need your help. For some reason the last week or so I have just wanted to cry. I cant think of why, yet, but I do feel like a worthless man because of it. Can anyone tell me why it is so bad for guys to cry? Is crying not part of the emotions we all have? I know I have felt "down" lately but it happens right? Is feeling "down" a bad thing? I'm sure that while I feel this way my thoughts are that I'm going into depression again. I have been really tired and feeling like I cant get enough sleep. I have been really crabby. Cab someone help me snap out of this feeling?

If you only look at what is, you might never attain what could be.

Hi Wildcard, of course it is ok for men to cry - just watch the "Bachelor" tv show. He cries all the time!! :D

Seriously, it is OK. I don't know why guys are taught it is not ok, but it is. I know I am teaching my son it is ok to show emotions. Most of us women wish men would show more of their emotions!! Well, maybe not as much as the Bachelor has. :D

Also, everyone feels "down" now and then. It is completely normal. Being the middle of winter may contribute to it also. Not getting a good nights sleep can make you feel that way too. So, hang in there. When you have sunshine, go sit in the car, if it's too cold to be outside, and let the sun shine on you. It will lift your spirits for sure. Take care, Tammy

ROFL MoM that was a good one.

It's not only guys, it is some women too. I haven't always been one to "show emotion" - I didn't shed a tear at my father's funeral when I was only 10 years old. That said, after having children I've been a lot freer with my emotions.

I think it has a lot to do with upbringing. My DH and his 3 brothers were brought up by 2 very sensitive and emotional parents and although they all have that manly macho thing going on, they are all crybabies, tee hee.

While my parents didn't show that kind of emotion. My dad used to play tricks on me and scare me all the time so I tend to do that to other unsuspecting victims for a laugh. But neither of them showed much emotion when it came to crying. I do not know why.

I don't think it is right or wrong - it is what it is.

What I would suggest as a way to get those emotions out, if you cannot cry, then exercise! Really as hard as you can for as long as you can, it always helps release pent up energy as well as unreleased emotions.

Of course, with your doctor's permission

Hi Wildcard,

I'm a guy and I have cried on occasion and it's not a big deal. Sometimes I just feel like crying and I allow myself to do that. And I feel so much better afterwards.

We guys seem to have the idea that it is a shameful thing for us to cry. We are no different from women. I just let it happen. Now, if you cried all day, every day for no apparent reason I would probably seek some professional advice as this could possibly be an issue (I am no doc however).

We all do it, but most of us would never admit it. I don't care - I do. Also, it is not shameful to feel down. I have felt down many times, sometimes it makes me cry. But a good cry is good at times... we all need it. Good luck!
