I am an 18 year old boy who has this horrible fear and anxiety of seizures. About two years ago, my school's math and science team took a trip to Jackson, Mississippi, for a competition. We were sitting in the auditorium waiting for the results when suddenly my friend had a grand Mal seizure right behind me in her seat. She had never had a seizure in her life either. I was totally traumatized. Now, I can't even watch people on medical drama shows (like House) who are acting like they are having seizures. By the way, I've never had a seizure, but I stress out about stressing out about seizures lol. Does anyone else have this problem?

I don't think there's anything strange about your anxiety - that sounds like a really traumatic experience! I think it's great that you are addressing this while you are still so young, because your brain is still so flexible that you can completely get rid of this fear.

One thing I would think about, is - so what if? How is your friend doing today? Is she traumatized by it, and did she feel that the seizure was a devastating experience? If not, even *if* you had a seizure, you'd probably be okay!

I wonder if the EFT technique could be helpful for you... Have you ever looked into it? It's a way of reprogramming the brain when it's gotten 'stuck', so to speak. There's several websites about it, if you google 'tapping' or 'EFT' you can read about it.

Kizzyle...I used to have the same fear as you have about the seizure thing. I have a distant cousin and I watched her have a couple of those seizures, and it absolutely terrified me!!!

Being the negative thinker that I was...I thought...Oh no, I bet I will begin having those anytime!!! I was scared to death that I had a seizure disorder, although, I had never had a seizure in my life!!!

That has been at least 16 years ago, and I have not had a seizure, yet!!!

Just because someone else has a seizure disorder does not mean we will have the disorder...After all, seizures are not contagious!!!

I suggest you realize that this is nothing but an "irrational fear" and that it just AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN TO YOU...PERIOD...

You are perfectly healthy. So let go of this fear, so, you can live the rest of your life in peace. Do not allow this "irrational fear" to control your life...Do not give it any weight, at all!!!

I don't know why that people who suffer from anxiety disorder are always connecting the dots, when in reality, the dots are not even connectible...

I pray this helps to alleviate this fear, since, I do not want you to waste another day worrying over something, which will never happen...

I actually "obsessed" over this one, and it never happened to me!!!

Have a great night...God Bless...

Thank you Ms. T Bones for being so supportive of this. I'm glad you can relate to me on it. I have prayed that God would give me strength and someone at my church gave me the scripture 1 John 4:18...."There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." This scripture has helped me many times, and now I pass it on to you that it may help you. God bless you too!

When you are ready, another approach to this, Kyle, is to expose yourself to "seizure-type" people as often as possible. To get over any fear we must expose to it. You can research where you might beable to be around people with this particular challenge.

While you are exposing practice your breath work and allowing the scary/anxiety feelings to be there. Those feelings are temporary as you expose. They diminish with time and you become a very powerful person.
