Has anyone every tried hypnotherapy for helping w/ anxiety? I had visited w/ one today and he did an initial session w/ me and I really felt good about it. I guess if anything makes you feel good or gets you excited it is a good thing, but thinking long term I was just wondering on others experiences. Thanks for any input. Tee

Yes, I tried it for a few sessions many years ago. I didn't find that it helped much. I was very hopeful about trying something different but I wasn't able to get fully hypnotized (maybe that was part of the problem). Then again, different things work for different people so I think almost anything is worth a try!

I just had three sessions with a psychologist who is also a hypnotherapist. What we found, was that I resisted giving up control, so it was hard to hypnotize me when I was just supposed to relax. It was easy when she gave me visualization 'tasks', but just relaxing was uncomfortable. She was going to teach me self-hypnosis, but then we discovered she had a conflict of interest and couldn't continue to see me - I believe she is seeing my husband's ex-wife...

Thanks you guys, lol kinda of funny about the ex wife thing :) I think I might give it a few more tries. I know I was able to relax quickly, but there were times when I felt uncomfortable or anxious while I was relaxed, but I think if I tell him how I felt he will work around that by allowing me to tell him if I start to feel anxious. I see him again this afternoon, I will keep posting on how it goes. take care, Tee

I’m sorry to hear that you are suffering with anxiety and or panic, the good news is you don’t have to much longer. When you are in an ‘anxious state’ it can be very debilitating, and often the ‘fear of the fear’ can keep you in that place, that no amount of rationalising can help.

The unconscious mind acts as our ‘inner protector’, it’s main purpose is to keep us physically and emotionally safe. Because the unconscious mind doesn’t understand linear time, if we experience a stressful or fearful event or period in our life, either as a child or as an adult, our unconscious mind stores up the experience as a ‘danger’ to keep us ‘safe’. Hypnotherapy works by looking to clear the original source of the anxiety and let the unconscious mind know that it is now ‘over’ and that it is safe to progress in life, I clear old negative beliefs and induce states of calm and relaxation, and sometimes indifference to future situations that would previously have triggered anxiety. It also works by reducing and eliminating the physical symptoms of anxiety and panic such as breathlessness, dizziness, hot flushes, pins and needles and chest pains. The mind and body relationship are circular and as anxiety lessens in the mind the physical symptoms reduce and vice versa.

I hope this helps.
