I have been struggling with this phobia for nearly my whole life 44 yrs and it has complicated my life and relationships. It wasn't till recently in chat that another friend mentioned it had a name Emetophobia. I cannot tell you how excited I was to know that it wasn't just all in my head. I wish the StressCenter.com lessons would address this particular phobia more , it's really not common and when I googled the disorder I found programs that offer help and that seem pretty confident that you can be victorious in recovery from it. WOW! If anyone is curious Google it or send me a note here and i can send you the link.
Take care

I felt the same about the IBS thing. Although I spoke to an AA & D counselor who said going through the program should help. It did help a great deal, but there's still that occasional time here and there. If I don't watch what I eat before a trapping situation, things can literally go south, LOL!

It's amazing how putting a name to something can drastically change our view of it. I suppose in this case it reduces the fear by taking away a bit more of the unknown. I'm glad you two found out this information.

Take care,

I think you found your HOPE. :) It's always very encouraging to learn that we are NOT ALONE in the life struggles that we face. My personal (extremely humble) theory is that the specific "mask" that our anxiety or depression takes on is really not all that important in the grand scheme. Don't get me wrong - I was THRILLED the day I heard that social anxiety was pretty common. Only problem was I then proceeded to throw medication at it for 7 years, and did nothing to address the real, underlying problem - but I digress. This is all in our heads. We do this to ourselves. It's just "stinkin thinkin" underlying it all. I just think we need to be careful with the LABELS, and not get too hung up on them, and letting them DEFINE who we are.

Peace.

John
