Can Couples?

Post by patrromig » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:46 am

I've been working on the program and at three weeks into the program my girlfriend is wanting to try it too for her as well. She wants to do it together even though I'm on week 3 she would just be starting. Should I start over and help her as she helps me? I support the fact that she wants to do it and will help her all the way, but my main concern is starting over again. I would rather wait until she has reached the same week and then move on from there. What should I do?

Patrromig, welcome and hello.

It would be my belief the program is for the individual. In that I mean you pursuded a fix for the issue that got you here and that is how one should follow it, "the bones in the closet is yours to clean". Your wife should do the program, basically CBT for herself also.
Then you can debate or exercise the effects of learning how things really can and will change. My main point is that one does not try to change the other. Both personalitys need to be whole individually. Sounds fun and could be rewarding if things are not taken personally and keeping a open mind. I am sure it would be to her advantage to be approx equal so as to not enable you to prejudge or anticapate her. Lets us know how things go.

Have fun

We have been doing the program at separate times but we are also eating better and exercising together. Our relationship is going so much better with this program thank you.
