Car accident and panic attack

Post by manofmusic » Tue Oct 25, 2011 5:49 pm

I was in a car accident last week. A van ran a red light and took the front end off of my truck. I wasn't hurt (luckily) and neither was the other guy, but the truck is a write-off. Fast forward to today.....I'm having one panic attack after another. I was at the Insurance company today and I had one that was so bad, I had to excuse myself and pretend to have to use the washroom. I haven't been like this for a few years now. I hope that I can deal with this too. This has been the most stressful year of my life so far and now this. I was doing good as far as not panicking too much, but this seems to be the thing that throws me backwards. Also, there's so much strife in the family now because mom's selling the house and going into a senior's home and I really got to know how certain family members are and it's really sent me over the edge. It seems that the one thing that used to send me into attacks all the time (work) is the one place I feel safe. I sent an email to a trusted friend and told them what was going on with certain pain in the butt family member and I accidentally sent it to my sister ! There was nothing at all about my sister in the email, and I know that my sister won't say anything, but that's just another thing. I just want to pull the covers over my head and go to sleep for weeks !

So sorry, mano. Yes, a car accident will rattle all sorts of hornets nests. And your mom moving is another shake-up, to be sure. As to the family members, there is little you can do except to keep quiet and think, "You have to live with yourself. Lucky me does not."

For me the safe havens are exercise and meditating. Clears the brain, relaxes the body and spirit, helps me to hold on. Try and fit it in no matter what and remember the most important thing: you were not hurt.

Thanks Tina,

You are right. They have to live with themselves.

I'm going for my walks again and that's helping.

I picked up my new truck tonight so now I can get used to my "new normal" again ! A new black Ford Ranger Sport truck
VROOOM VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Mom is actually very happy now in the seniors home. She's made friends there and she talks all the time. She likes it when they quietly check on her in the middle of the night. It makes her feel secure. She didn't get that at home once dad passed away. She felt very alone. All of her neighbours checked on her but it wasn't the same. She admitted that it didn't feel like home anymore. I guess we all have to roll with the changes. Knowing that mom is happy where she is makes me happy too.

manomusic,
so good to hear from you sorry in a bad way. you will get thru this and come out stronger. we put ourselves in the panic with fear of the un known.
sorry about your mom but it will be easier and she is taken care. my mom has been in one for 5 yrs now. it was hard at first but I got thru it. she now has other issues too. we just need to roll with the punches. we are out worst enemies. I am having a hard time learning that but try not to see more into it then there really is and look for the positive.

wow new truck see something good!!!!!!!!

Hey Forever Young ! So glad to hear from you again !

I've made peace with mom in a senior's home. I hope mom has 5 years at least in there ! She may have to go to the hospital for a few days to get some excess fluid removed. It depends on how well her new high powered pills work. She said that she's ok with going to the hospital. She knows what to expect.

Yes. We are our own worst enemies. Sometimes my mind goes to places I have no business going.

The one thing I've learned lately is that life is too short to be putting up with negative people. There are a few negative people that seem to enjoy being negative. I've learned that they are the kind of people that are stealing my joy and my positive outlook. I don't deserve to be around people like that. I make sure that there's plenty of space between me and that kind of stuff. Sometimes stuff like that can come sneaking up behind me without warning. That's the time I'm beginning to simply walk away. (sometimes I even have to run ! LOL) It's a constant battle but like you said.......look for the positive.

I'm beginning to enjoy my life one day at a time.
