Does anyone have any advice on symptoms of Gerd related to the issues of having anxiety and/or panic attacks?

I have been dealing with some terrible heartburn and everyone is telling me that I might have GERD? If this is the case, why am I still dealing with the heart paps, muscle twitches, etc?

Help

I have been dealing with reflux/GERD for years. I also believe I started experiencing anxiety because of the way it made me feel. The pains and feelings the GERD would cause would also get my mind thinking it was heart related (heart attack/stroke)which really made me anxious. Its been a vicious cycle. I feel that the reflux has been my main source of anxiety and now my anxiety seems to only be making my reflux worse. Practice deep breathing and stay positive about what your feeling, its not going to hurt you. It also wouldn't hurt to check into some medication if your GERD continues/gets worse.

I might have had gerd. It's a terrible feeling to feel your throat is tightening when you lay down.
Try not to eat after 7:00 pm. Also see a doctor. Breathing to calm down helps.

Your best bet is to see your family doctor and to see if it is GERD.

Hello Madimac,

I have had GERD symptoms and had a barrium swallow done and they said I have a sliding hiatal hernia. If I eat too much or the wrong thing, I will feel very bloated and that can irritate the vagus nerve which then effects the heart palps! Isn't it lovely how our bodies work! It's like when you hurt your toe, the whole body is effected. :) AND I have had anxiety with it cause of the symptoms. I used to drink a bit of apple cider vinegar and water with dinner and that helped alot. Tastes like you're having a salad with every meal.

As my acid reflux has gotten better, I don't have as much anxiety related to that. Try small, frequent meals.

Hope you get to feeling better soon. :)

Hi Madimac,
I recently was expierencing heart burn, feeling of food not going down etc..I went and had a upper GI scope. They found nothing wrong. I was relieved that it was nothing. It was anxiety all along. It can do a lot of things to our body. As soon as they told me I was ok no GERD then the sensations of heart burn and food getting stuck left me. So I would go to the dr and get checked out. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.

Sophia :)
