Is it that hard to find a Psychiatrist and Therapist in one office? I have been through one psychiatrist who was very rude and had no therapy in their office at all. First i go to a therapist for hypnosis then he tells me i have to go to someone else because he is not qualified to help with extreme problems. Now i go to a counseling center and he tells me that he cannot help me and i need both psychiatry and a therapist but he wants me to keep seeing him as well. I feel somewhat hopeless because i need help. Its to the point in my life where suicidal thoughts creep in so often after everything has gotten worse and now when i least expect it there is a death in the family caused by addiction and now i am addicted to a narcotic.

Hi,
Psychiatrist and psychologist therapy is different in that a psychiatrist can prescribe meds and the other not.Are system for getting help is not user friendly at all. It's a money making system, not that you can't get help from it ,you can !Keep looking ,best to you.As for those thought's ,remember they are just thought's,not that the world is not a painful place.Look at something outside your world or even your home or apartment that is apart from your pain even if it's even for a moment.

I've used a number of doctors (psychologists and psychiatrists) that both do therapy and can prescribe medications. I'd recommend calling the office of a doctor you are interested in seeing and find out what services they offer before making an appointment. In most cases, you shouldn't need to have multiple doctors unless it's something you want.
Also, the last two therapists I've seen, which includes my current therapist, are nurse practitioners (ARNP) that specialize in mental health. Again, they can both offer therapy and medication management. I'd check out the opportunities to see an ARNP as an option as well.
