Lost alot of weight fast!
Ever since my anxiety and panic attacks started reoccuring recently, I have dropped alot of weight...25 pounds in the past 2 months! Mostly from 1 week of not eating well, and from then on I just eat very little, maybe 1 and a half meals daily, no snacking! Also I quit drinking energy drinks, smoking, snacking excessively, sodas! I have been suffering from anxiety off and on for over 20 years! This time it hit the hardest and i felt so hopeless! Was off of work for 2 months, due to over anxiousness and panic attacks, but trying to go back New Years! But as far as the weight thing goes, has anyone experience this? Is this normal? Is it safe to drop that kind of weight in that amount of time? Would appreciate any advice!

Hi--I dropped weight after I had my first panic attack. I was happy to lose weight since that is why I weaned off of some of my anti-depressants.
I wasn't expecting to have a Panic Attack though, and it was most distressing and I couldn't eat...my gut was churning. This was the beginning of summer and I started getting active due to warm weather.
Eventually, I could eat again, but some of the weight came back due to the new anti depressant they put me on that makes me hungry after I take it. Then summer ended and the days grew short and cold so outdoor exercise went by the wayside.
I've been keeping away from food that would cause weight gain. Except an occasional chocolate treat since people keep giving chocolate candy to our family for gifts.
Considering the holidays, I think I'm doing pretty darn good.
It is okay to lose weight, always better to be on the thin side than the other way around. Extra pounds can cause health problems, and doesn't always help your morale.
I get anxious about my weight, but never because I lost some.

I have slimmed some since I started having panic attacks. I haven't lost that much but I am on day 5 of session 1. I too have lost snacking appetite but I ate fruit and nuts for snacks. I think losing 25 pounds in 2 months is ok. That doesn't seem extreme to me. It also depends on how heavy or not you were before you lost weight. Like if you were 120 lbs BEFORE you lost that weight might not be too healthy. I would keep an eye on the weight loss and ask your doctor about what would be with in a good limit for you.
Not eating all that junk anymore is good though

OMG!!! I went through this same thing early 2009. Thats when I had just found out what was going on with me, didn't kno it was all just anxiety. The whole month of January 2009, I had the worst time, high anxiety, panic attack, after panic attack, I had absolutely almost NO appetite, drank alot of water, always had to have a bottle of water beside me wherever I was for some reason. I think i lost about 20lbs in 2-3 wks cuz I was almost eating nothing day after day. Not cuz i didn't want to but the want or will to eat just was not there!! One of my many trips to the ER back then, when they took a sample of my urine, they told me I had keloids or something like that in my urine, meaning I wasn't eating I was just drinking water. it was a tough time! Then I got on Lexapro early February 2009, and gradually i started feeling better, panic attacks went away, and my appetite came back slowly, but with a vengence!! Since Feb. 2009, I've gained 40-50lbs, I believe the antidepressant has alot to do with it!!! I'm devestated to have gained that much, never had a weight issue until now, so thinking about getting off the lexapro soon. I definately understand the not having an appetite part when going through it really bad! Truthfully I kinda miss that part cuz i actually lost weight without even having to try!!! LOL!!! It should pass though, but keep an eye on what u eat, and exercise, I really battle with that everyday!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!

Losing weight due to anxiety attacks might be because you're feeling stressed. People react to stress differently, some eat to control their stress so they gain weight; others are to worried to eat, so they lose weight. If you can get a handle of what's causing your anxiety, I'm sure you can control your weight loss. In the meantime, you should talk to someone close to you, a family member or a friend, perhaps.
