Anyone else crave carbs when they're stressed?
I went through a period of total carb cravings recently. It happened to coincide with a very anxious/depressed time. And I'm starting to wonder if my carb craving is a tip-off to me that I need to be aware that a stressful time is upon me. Anyone else else crave carbs when stressed? Or have you identified a red flag that tells you that troubled times are ahead?
YES YES YES. I crave sweets. But I found out if I can be satisfied with some complex carbs like fruit etc. (and maybe cheat with one sugary thing in the middle of the binge) that I can come out on the other side with my mental capacity intact and my weight still level. I don't LOSE weight when I do this by any way, but at least I don't gain!! One thing that satisfies me is Smucker's Simply Fruit in plain yogurt (my brain thinks I've had ice cream) or on whole wheat toast. They're not low calorie but candy bars bring on lots of panic and anxiety and depression in me.
I also crave carbs when stressed. I think it is our body's way of telling us something is off. I have had a particularly stressful period in my life and have gone carb crazy. But i have gone back and listened to Session 5 and it has helped alot. That is what is so great about this program, you can always go back and repeat what you need to. I am struggling with my weight right now and really stressing over it but I will get back on track. Take Care and Good Luck.
Thanks for your feedback. There may be some biological reason for the cravings. Like we're carbo packing for a marathon but we don't do the run and become anxious instead. Man, I was eating pasta salad and donuts likes crazy there for a while. And then to Panera for their pastries. I'm not a big eater, but I was just craving these things and nothing could keep me from them. I was like the terminator. LOL! But now I think I can use this as a warning flag for myself so I know to take better care of myself and address my stress in a better way to prevent the anxiety & depression that MAY be on its way.

Personally, I think that this whole diet thing is overblown. I prefer to use a common sense approach which incorporates 5-10 servings of veggies and fruit a day.
Too much of any one thing is not a good idea. Combining a little of this with a little of that is a good approach.
Certain things are well documented such as not eating big meals right before you go to bed and cutting down on sweets and caffeine.
If we supplement our diet with some good multivitamins and practice common sense eating habits, everything should be fine.
There are thousands of different books out on what you should and shouldn't eat and a lot of them have studies, etc. which totally conflict with each other. You can drive yourself crazy doing things such as counting calories, proper food combining, juicing and buying 50 different pills for everything under the sun....or just use common sense and eat a variety of pretty much everything.
Thats my opinion and I am sticking with it !!!!
p.s. I forgot to mention that doing some regular exercise is a pretty good idea as well,.....even it it something as simple as walking the dog.

I have another question that someone may know the answer to. Every morning I wake up feeling stressed and down. But once I eat something and hop in the shower it seems to go away. Could these feelings be a low blood sugar symptom? Since I'm on Session 3 I'm trying to come up with a positive response to this down feeling each morning. Something to say to myself that will get me out of bed in a better mood to face the day.
Thanks Tallboy.
You're right. Sticking to the basics is so much easier. My head has been spinning with all the diet advice and books out there and it is so easy to get caught up in it. Its alot easier to remember the simple basic. Thanks.
