Hi guys. ive been having some anxiety problems. i went back on my medication and i was starting to feel better. then all of a sudden yesterday i started feeling anxious again. i had a couple tests i was worried about but those are over now. this may sound stupid but i freak out about my period being due soon. since it makes me feel even worse when i have it. and i have a play to go to tonight and a wedding to go to tomorrow. i really want to enjoy them but i have so much anxiety i cant relax and enjoy anything. for me once the cycle stars its hard for me to get out of it. i start worrying about my symptoms. i get gaggy and lose my appetite. but i have to eat cause i start to feel weak and shaky if i dont. so that freaks me out even more. i worry i wont be able to eat and so on. does anyone have any tips for me? i really want to enjoy this weekend and stop feeling so freaked! help! im having trouble sleeping too. i just cant relax.

Purplerose, I'm sorry that you're going through this. I know what you mean  I too have anticipatory anxiety when I am close to my "cycle". I know that for at least a week I will be anxious and moody. But what helps me is to mark the calender when I had my last "cycle" and because I am pretty regular, I know approximately when I will start the next month. When I know it's coming, it's easier to prepare for it..Such as reminding myself that hormonal changes can create anxiety and that's just what it is, "anxiety". Millions of women are affected by pms and live to write/complain about it..LOL :D... I use self soothing dialogue and I really focus on slowing down at that time. paying attention to my breathing(slowing it down with meditation, relaxation cd, etc) pampering myself and giving myself well needed breaks(kids, housework, work, whatever it be)
I "think" that you may be feeling like this today because of the 'tests" you had done. I get like that too. I worry about whatever I'm being faced with and then it's almost like the after effects and "coming down" after I've dealt with the issue. It's a vicious cycle sometimes. And to top it off, it sounds like you have a busy few days ahead of you??? that doesn't help, but you will make it!!! Do you take time out for yourself?? can you take a nap once in a while?? My advice to you for the weekend is to "live in the moment"(I know, sometimes easier said than done, right?) Enjoy getting out, socializing and letting go of all of lifes demands. Dance, laugh and breathe...It's in you, YOU CAN DO IT!!! Hope this helps. Take care
"O God, you are my God. Earnestly I seek you;my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is BETTER than life,my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands." Psalms 63

Do you HAVE to go to the play? Do you HAVE to go to the wedding? We put so much pressure on ourselves and that time of the month is the time to step back and slow your pace down. Do less. Nurture yourself. It's OK.

yeah i do notice that sometimes it can be an after affect. like having 2 tests this week. and then the stuff i have to do this weekend. i just start panicking about how im going to feel and get through it. im not a big nap person. its hard for me to fall asleep.

i try to socialize and do things but its hard when you dont feel well. and then it bums me out cause im not enjoying it. thanks for you kind words!

Then if these are thing you want to do - just bring your tools with you. Know what you will do: Thought Stoppage, calm breath and focus on the event you are at. It's really helpful to really focus on any conversations you have with anyone.

Also, make it OK to feel anxious and stressed. Tell yourself that it's very likely you will be somewhat uptight, and make it ok to be that way. You are no longer resisting and will more than likely calm down.

Write a success scenerio about these two events. Read it a few times. How do you want it to turn out? How do you want to be? Write about it. Doesn't have to very long. See yourself coming out of it very happy.
