Ugh! I need help! Lucinda once made a comment on the tapes about her Father-...how he didn't have the best quality of life and how she struggled with the decision of how much she should intercede.

My Father is 62 with a number of health problems living on his own. He is a constant source of guilt and worry for me.....he is living his own life..and has many capabilities...but recently was in a car accident in which he blacked out and hit another car head on. The doctors told him not to drive and he has continued driving. Also, he is on a number of medicines that affect him negatively if not taken with food and so on. I'm trying to support him by being involved as much as possible..and assist him with Dr. appointments and so on...and he is appreciative. However other times he just disobeys Dr. orders and does what he want....(and we can't control others).
I feel like I'm Mothering him...and I get angry when he doesn't follow Dr. orders regarding his health...but when things go amiss I feel responsible to pick up the pieces because he is my Father.

How do I overcome the guilt, worrry and agitation.....this is putting my skills to the test!!! Anyone had to deal with a similar situation? Thanks for any input!

Have you talked to him about how you feel? It sounds like you need to have a heart to heart in order to find out what his expectations are. "Dad, I am really concerned about you... I want to help you when I can...I become frustrated when the doctor's orders are not followed...I have been feeling anxious and guilty -anxious about your health and guilty about not being able to help you as much. What are your expectations for your health, from me, from life?...." Asking specific questions may help.
Would your dad really want you feel so worried?
Please take care.
