I am constantly worrying about my breathing! I am afraid that some how my throat is going to swell shut! My saliva seems thick if that makes any sence and I am drinking plenty! I can't quit this worry! I need help! I have this rash for some reason and it makes me worry more on top of it and then I get the body sensations from anxiety even more! I am a mess.

Ethan's Mommy - I know that you have seen the posts on this very same topic. Those posts pertain to you as well and it's OK to follow their instruction.

Your throat will not swell shut and the only reason your saliva is thick is because of the anxious feelings. In other words, the adrenalin is creating all your symptoms. The throat tightness is a sensation only. You are allowing your scare voice to take charge.

A good line of defense is to go to the mirror and actually encourage the anxiety to come in. Right now you are fighting it and that is why you are so uncomfortable. Breathe into the tension and feel your body release. Nothing bad will happen from this tension. You can even still swallow. Do everything slowly and breathe, breathe, breathe slowly as well.

The sensations will lift but they will come back as long as you continue to be afraid of them. That is why it is so important to welcome them in. The more you stop fighting the more these sensations will pass. When you welcome you learn to be unafraid. Everything will pass when you practice being unafraid.

Allow the fearful feelings. That is how you eventually let them go. You must embrace them. Welcome them. Allow them. However you want to put it.

Remind yourself that even if these sensations never go away, you can handle it. It's no biggie and you can function very well this way.

First, take a deep breath several of them and calm down. Unless you are having an allergic reaction to something your throat is not going to close up. What were you thinking about when this happened or right before it happened? Something is making you anxious. You need to pin point it and cut it out. Tell yourself these are only thought. You are not going to choke, die, etc. You are just anxious and this will end. Do something to take your mind off what is happening. If you think you have a legitimate medical concern go to your local urgy care center or ER.
