hey everyone :)

since i became an anxious and depressed person my body has begun falling apart.. i posted to following on another forum..

Hey..
I went to the Dr who sed its nothing but I kno my something isn't right. For the past couple of months I have noticed that my hair is thinner. Im 22 n always had REALLY thick, coarse hair but now it seems flat, dull, thin and kinda frizzy.I also noticed I hav some big spots on my cheeks, neck and scalp, n that my neck n scalp are kinda itchy. The thinning seems most obvious on the crown at the back of my head.I don't notice loads of hair on my pillow bt people hav started to notice.Wat could this be down to.. here are the only things I can think of..
1) In Dec 2006 I went from blonde (bleached) to red. After a few months I got fed up and went to black. Then in May 2007 I got my hair bleached 3 times in a month to get it back to blonde. I have been having it bleached (highlights) every 3 months but the colour still is a bit red.
2) I got diagnosed with a borderline underactive thyroid(im 21) they r retesting me in 6 months (no meds)
3)I have had a mirena coil since jan 06..
I have read that the mirena can cause spots and hair thinning (i have also noticed i have more body hair) but my DR said it doesnt cause it releases hardly any hormone..
4) Im kinda overweight, but on a realy good diet now.

I just don't know what to do cause I feel so paranoid.. any ideas very welcome thanks! x

Has anyone experienced anything like this and can it be caused by depression and anxiety? Often ppl on here has experienced the same stuff as me :) thanks for any help x

Hi.

It sounds like you have seborrhea dermatitis. But I may be wrong because there are lots of skin conditions with the same symptoms. You need to go to a dermatologist.

One of my sisters' and one of my brothers' have it. It affects the scalp and skin. My sister had it for 20 years or more now. It constantly thins your hair because the folicles die. She has scaly, crusty skin on her scalp and spots on her face that comes and goes (on the face).

Hi, My advice would be for you to address all those things with your Dr. or have you done that already? If you are anxious about all of them and they are causing you more anxiety, I would say your Dr. could help dispell your fears. We are not trained professionals and you will get a variety of possible answers from us non professionals of what we might think it is. And that inturn could cause you more anxiety. I have my own thoughts but they are different from what the others have posted. So my suggestion would be to tell your dr. about all the hair dying/bleaching, have him take an actual hormone blood test to see if your hormones are out of whack, etc.

The dying and bleaching of your hair will defiantly make your hair thin out. I went through a period in my teen years of dying my hair, red & black and having it bleached back to blonde ( my natural color) I am 30 now, and its even worse. Stree also causes your hair to thin, as well as any type of birth control hormone. I have a friend who has had hives and rashes since Sept from stress, and she is suffering from anxiety and depression. A dermatologist may help. Maybe consider that for your next step.

Hi besos. Your avatar when seen enlarged is very provacative. Do you think you could find another one that's more mainstream? It's very distracting to me and I would guess to a lot of the guys on this site.

hello....Im sorry your having such a time with this....I also have the mirena and have had it for 3 years I love it....I dont have any side effects and I have never heard of any of the ones you have described. Your doctor is right the amount of progesterone in that is so small and is directly deposited to the uterus not into the blood stream as is typical bc pills and/or hormones.

I agree that hair treatments can and do weaken hair. along with cold dry weather. Bleaching is the worst becuase by definition you are stripping all the color and health right out of your hair making it weak and damaged. Coloring your hair is actually a better process because it coats the hair with dye making it more protected to the elements. I would try a hair thickening hair shampoo and conditioner as well

I would also take dee dees advice and get in to see a dermatologist. Regulare MDs are very good but when you have a specific issue its always best to go to a specialist. They have been trained in these areas in great depth and have and know of the most recent cures and medications. Thats the first thing I would do if I were you....

Dont panic. There are people that do loose hair from a variety of conditions and not all are bad conditions....could be even as simple as a vitamin deficiency....so go and check it out and ease your mind.

Hope it helps.
