My Dr wants to put me on paxil Cr I was wondering if any of you take it and does it work and is it really as bad as they make it sound on the internet? I have a huge medicine phobia so I know that it is going to be hard to take. Also are the withdrawls that bad? My Dr said that the extended release isn't nearly as bad as the old one any advice will help.

Hi, I am on paxil cr 25 milligrams. I started on regular paxil 10 milligrams. It was the generic stuff. It was hard to start the paxil. I had a hard time in the beginning with the generic stuff. It just wasn't doing much for me and I would wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning with a panic attack. My doctor said that maybe the paxil would flood my body as soon as I took it and then would not last the whole night so he suggested Paxil CR. When I first started paxil I would get headaches and ringing in my ears and my arms felt tingly like an electric shock. My doctor and nurse (she is on paxil too) said that it would go away and to stay with it and I did. It took about a month but I feel really well now. My anxiety is down and my depression in better. I always said that I thought this happened to me for a reason, maybe to make me stronger for things to come. Well, friday I went to Denver to get an annual mammogram and they found a tiny lump and I have to go in a couple of weeks to get a biopsy on that and a cyst they found on the same breast that I have already had a previous biopsy on about 7 years ago. I hope that my experience with paxil CR will help you but everyone is different with medicine. I don't know about the withdrawls because I have only been on it for about 3 months. I'm suppose to drop my dose after 6 months and then slowly wean off of it. Take care and hope you feel better soon.

P.S. The paxil CR is really expensive and there is no generic version. It is about 118 dollars for thirty pills.

I have been on Paxil for three months, and it has helped so much. I have been on anti-depressants for a long time. I need the meds for it, and I know that it works

I was on Paxil for 6 years and there are definitely pros and cons. The side effects can be strange, but for me they did go away with time. I also gained 20 pounds. I weaned off of it in February and I have to tell you, it was very difficult. "Brain zaps" (electrical feeling things), dizziness, and feeling like if you turn your head too quickly your brain has to catch up, were some of the things that I dealt with, but everyone reacts differently. MY mom quit cold turkey and had no problems what-so-ever. Never quit cold turkey though. The up side is, while I was taking Paxil, not one panic attack, no depression or anxiety. So you kind of need to weigh out what you feel is best for you.

I have been on Paxil (non-CR & the generic version) for 5 weeks now (anxiety & panic problems). Like others have described here, there were a couple strange effects when I started, but they went away. When I first started it, I took it at night. I didn't sleep well, so I switched to taking it in the morning.

I have been feeling more and more like the person I want to be since starting it. I don't think it's all just the Paxil (the program, help from family, etc.), but Paxil is definitely an important part of it.

Med affect different people in different ways, but if your doc believes it can help, I would listen to him/her.

Good luck! :)
