So, if I tell myself "this is just habit; just an automatic response" over and over each time when I feel an emotion that makes me uneasy, it will eventually stop bothering me and I won't get those feelings anymore?
I want to feel more confident in my efforts when I'm feeling down about having this habit in the first place...

True. Once you finally convince yourself that this is just anxiety, it usually goes away. It might take a while though so don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen over night. The feeling may come back at times, but you will no longer get panicky over it and it will go away faster. Just being kind to yourself and your emotions can make a huge difference. Letting yourself know that this is what it is..and it is OK to feel this way (I'm feeling anxious and that is ok...it will pass, for example) will help you in the long run. Good job on working at it!

Something that helps me is try to think of myself like the sky.

The sky has always been and its always going to be blue. But sometimes there are clouds, rain, storms, thunders that hide the blue sky/.

Try to think of youself as the blue sky and your emotions are like the weather. Sometimes its good sometimes its bad. The weather always changes... just like your emotions

There's always that underlying voice that says, "yea, yea, you say that all the time...", but I'm going to shut it up, too, eventually :)

KDLady - it is a daily struggle, but we can all get through this!

Don't let a bad day get you down, for as many good days I have, if I let the bad day get me down, I could cycle back to the way I was a month or so ago and I know I don't want to be like that anymore!

Michelle - thats a great way to think about it. I still struggle many days with the anxiety and negative thinking, but I'm going to try thinking of myself that way.
