As most of you know who have been reading my drama, I just sold my house and my husband and I are currently living with my dad and will shortly be relocating from MA to FL. With all of this, my unreality has been horrible! I seriously thought I was losing my mind the other day and I just couldn't get that thought out of my mind. I hate the unreality--I feel as if it is all just a dream and not really happening. Any advice as to how to get through this? It is hard getting used to loeving at my father's house as it is a new environment, etc. Will this go away? Along with the unreality, my body symptoms, including numbness, palpitations, and dizziness have peaked. Any advice would be appreciated...

labourg...Yes, these symptoms will go away!!!

Any change in our lives, be it good or bad, can bring on symptoms of anxiety!!!

You are having anxiety attacks!!! The best way to overcome your feelings of spaciness and disorientation, and unreality is to accept these things and know that they will pass!!!

Actually, observe these feelings while you are experiencing them!!! Become an observer of you own feelings!!!

Watch as these feelings of unreality and spaciness float lazily before you as the clouds, notice that they pass with time!!!

Think of yourself as an outsider looking in!!! What do you really see happening here???

You will not lose your mind or go crazy from an anxiety or panic attack, since, that is impossible!!!

Remember, to float through these feelings, however uncomfortable they may feel!!! They cannot hurt you in any way!!!

You are going to be just fine!!! You need to stop running from your feelings, although, I know it is very difficult, but accepting your feelings is the "key" to overcoming these feelings!!!

You go with YOU everywhere you go!!! You know that by trying to resist these feelings or running from them, that you are only increasing their life span and adding fuel to your fears!!!

You can "starve" your fears by accepting them for what they are!!! Nothing at all to concern yourself with!!!

Fear feeds on fear, so, do not give your fears any weight, since, your fears cannot hurt you in any way!!!

You are safe, secure, healthy and very sane, always remember this!!!

I think this site will be very helpful to you!!!

When you finish reading the first page, then, just click next at the bottom of the page and go on to the next page!!!

When you finish reading these things, then, just look to the left side of the page and click on Mastering Panic and 6 approaches to healing!!!

Here is the site... Unreality

Realize that these feelings are in no way dangerous, and know that they will pass!!!

Practice your deep breathing and self talk during these times!!! Replace those negative thoughts with the "truth"

You are perfectly sane, safe, secure and healthy!!! Honestly, nothing is wrong with you, at all!!! You are scaring your own self with the negative thoughts that you are thinking, therefore, your brain is protecting itself and that is why you feel spacey!!!

This is sooooo normal!!! Your brain is in "overload" and this gives it time to rest!!!

Ms T
Thanks so very much for sharing this panic pizza and the paniccure site. It really re-inforces all the StressCenter.com stuff and it breaks it down and makes it so much easier to grasp with the examples of how to challenge our thoughts. Very cool stuff :)
Bless you,
Jill~

Labourg I am not sure if you have ever read my topic on How I overcame anxiety (which you can access through recent posts anyway)

The unreality symptom (Which I like to call it "the dreaming symptom") is one of anxiety's symptoms. It all makes sense when you look into the roots of the symptom.

What happens is under sheer stress or lack of sleep your mind cannot function as well as it should be. For instance there was a documentary based on a research on people who had insomnia and they showed that if they have lack of sleep, during the time they are awake, their nervous system still takes a nap which results in them being tired and slow or aggressive and snappy.

Stress too has a similar effect. Do you think if everything was on track you would still feel this way? probably not. It is a bi-product of your current situation.

What you need to know is that it won't stay with you. It will take time before it goes away but it will. I guarantee it. I suggest you give yourself more rest, exercise during the day and pick a hubby that relaxes you and make sure you get enough sleep at night.

labourg...what you call unreality, I call fogginess. :) When anxious and uneasy, I get clouded. My mind isn't working at optimum level because I'm so, so transfixed on "somethings wrong with me". I have health related anxiety. Anyways, I can feel when I'm doing better because that murky mind feeling lifts and I see and feel and sense things so much clearer!!! I'm having trouble due to my interrupted sleep and lack of rest. It's a vicious cycle! I'm tired, exhausted..."something's wrong with me"...I'm going a hundred miles an hour with racing thoughts...thus I can't sleep/rest well, and so on. I can only take deep breaths and attempt to calm myself and focus on my work and hobbies. We're working on it. We'll get through. :)

Great links Ms. T, those are wonderful resources.

Helpless what you say is right on, it stands to reason that maybe we need more sleep!

Lucinda often talks about the foggy, dreamy sensations under panic in the program.

She also talks about how we are prone to anxiety when we aren't well-rested.

I used to think, well, if I didn't get enough sleep, I would be really tired and feel a lot more relaxed all day and the anxiety wouldn't be as bad.

You would think it's that way, but in reality our minds can much better handle anxiety and other panicky situations when we have had a full nights' sleep or we at least are very well rested.

It is when we haven't gotten any or enough sleep that we have trouble and are challenged trying to get a hold of our emotional and physical peace of mind.

labourg if you are having trouble sleeping and are open to using supplements, there are a lot of herbal supps and teas available at your local health food store.
