Ladies...
Has anyone suffered with large amounts of hair loss due to ovarian cysts?
I am only 28 and have very thick healthy hair. Over the last year I have lost a lot of hair. Now it is thin. Other's can't tell, except really close family members who know how thick my hair was. Problem is, I am afraid if it doesn't stop it will be pretty noticable!!
I was told this is due to high testosterone caused by ovarian cysts. I am really not into surgery, and am going to try a natural approach to see if it goes away. Has anyone had this same problem and had luck with natural remedies to get rid of them withouth surgery?
Also...WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS HAIR LOSS??
My doc prescribed spironolactone (spelling?) to block/bind? with the testosterone to help the hair loss...but is there something else I can do? I don't want to take this medication!! It also messes with your blood pressure. I have been using Nioxin for about 3 weeks and don't really see any difference...anyone else used anything that helped with the hair loss?
I was also told that when you don't address this in a timely manner, (the hair loss due to the testosterone) then it damages the hair follical and the hair doesn't grow back.
This has really been upsetting me over time. I am 28 and shouldn't be having thinning hair this early. IT IS REALLY UPSETTING ME. I don't know what to do.
Before I ever dealt with panic disorder/agoraphobia I have had a specific phobia of medical procedures. I have had it since I was 2 or 3. (I can remember having severe panic attacks at this age, only in these circumstances.) Having this problem, I haven't been willing to have this removed.
I really feel at my wits end. The symptoms due to it are causing me a lot of anxiety and messing with my self esteem, which I am not use to. I feel paralyzed because I can't stay where I am and let it be, and I can't go forward and have blood drawn/surgery.
Hair loss, help!
Well i'm not a lady but I feel like i should comment.
I don't know what it is like but i can only imagine it to be really scary...you're losing hair and you have an abnormal growth on your ovary and so its no wonder that you are feeling scared.
High testosterone probabbly could cause it but so can stress...there have been cases of alopecia due to stress in women too...their hair falls out and then something happens...they get treatment or the stressor leaves and then their hair grows back.
I'm not sure about the comment about the hair not growing back if left too long. That one i'm a little sckeptical about.
I'd suggest getting acupuncture and herbs...I actually work with a doctor from china who treats cases like this. They can help you with both your issues.
One thing you could do on your own to help suppliment any kind of treatment is to work with foods...there's a great book called healing with whole foods that you might wanna look into...they can explain more about what foods can help you to heal quicker but don't use this on its own.
You could also try a Naturopath...they're trained in alot of things...including chinese medicine.
I hope this is helpful to you...If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask...I'm trained in the basics of chinese medicine and i could suggest some foods too if you'd like.

Thanks for replying.
I actually work with a naturopath...but was wondering which products others who may have had this same problem have had success with.
I read about the alopecia, but had hormone levels checked when hair was falling out and testosterone was OFF the charts. Then, doc said that an ovarian cyst or adrenal tumor was normally the cause of this, so had an ultrasound done and found the culprit.
I don't think I could do the acupuncture thing since I have such an issue with needles. (I did the hormone test through saliva.)
They told me that the testosterone causes the hair to fall out and it's similar to how men have male pattern baldness, and once the folical is damaged, it doesn't grow back.
I am also interested in seeing someone in chinese medicine in conjunction with my naturopath. I have read much about how they can read the tongue, and the corresponding organs in the body. The only thing is, I would not want to do acupunture as the treatment...
Where is the doc you work for located?
Thanks again for your reply.

WOW... it is so weird to see this post today! Weird because over the past two months, I too, have had significant hair loss! I just took a baggie of hair to my doc on Wednesday of this week to show him how much hair I have had lost in just ONE day! I have always had a thick head of hair as well... but, he said, "STRESS, next to thyroid issues, is the number one reason for hair loss. It isn't my thyroid, as he just checked it last week and it was normal!
I can sympathize with you... HAIR IS A WOMAN'S BEST FRIEND, LOL! I had wanted to post about this issue for about a week, but was too embarrassed to.
In short, doc says STRESS and ANXIETY will cause hair loss, so I guess I will believe him! I had this feeling something was VERY wrong with me medically! I have lived a lifetime of anxiety (am now 46), and know it does some very strange things to our bodies!
Hang in there... and try not and get so stressed, as it only causes more loss, according to my doctor and medical data! I know, easier said than done but, TRY!

He's in toronto, Ontario.
I don't know exactly what it feels like but of course you are feeling scared...like SeeBee said..hair is a woman's best friend and being told that it may never grow back must be terrifying. However, and i know this i not something easy...but the worst thing you can do right now is stress yourself out. My suggestion would be to definately work with the program and keep up with the naturopathic doctor but do come from every angle you can when it comes to tackling the problem.
If you can lower your general stress level...this will allow your immune system to work more which will help to eliminate the problem quicker.
If you can work with food then it would help with the hormone levels as well as the cyst....In chinese medicine the hormones are linked with the Kidney and Bladder and guess what....so is the parasympathetic system or the nervous system that is in charge of rest. So this would help to rebalance the hormones....they also say that foods like dairy, greasy and chemical rich foods create something called dampness which is an excess of mucous that can turn into an abnormal growth...weather that is a cyst or a tumor or even a zit! Working to cut down on those and use foods that breakdown those tissues would help (sour flavored foods like lemon, lime and grapefruit).
Yoga, Tai-chi or Qi Gong help you on more of an energetic level...which would help open up the meridians and remove the blocks which could be causing these manifestations.
Lots of water to flush out toxins.
Making sure you are regular with bowel movements as that system along with urinary system is what gets those toxins out of you.
Exercise as well...Chinese medicine links the Spleen up with the muscles. The Spleen is what changes food into energy for our bodies and when it is weakened (by bad food, poor exercise, bad eatting habits, worrying..etc), it actually creates mucous...Exercising can improve Spleen's function which would decrease the mucous production.
Do everything you can do so you know you are facing the issue. Then accept that you have this issue. I have no idea why you have it, but you have it and yes it is a pretty scary thing but as long as you keep working towards fixing the problem...you know the possibility of keeping your hair is at its maximum.
You could also look into Reiki as well. Oh and the movie the secret...that one lady cured herself of cancer with just changing the way that she thought...didn't use chemo or radiation either.
Neways i really hope that this is of benefit to you.
