driving on highways, expressways, etc
I am new to the program (1 week) and would like to hear from anyone who has difficulty driving on highways. I'm fine driving on less traveled roads, but when I get in busy traffic, my heart starts pounding, palms get sweaty. I'm confident I will beat this but just want to know if anyone else experiences this.
Hi, I'm a veteran of the program (july 14 to Oct 13 2006) and had driven across the country many times in the past but one day it all stopped. I became afraid of the road, drivers, bridges, tunnels, everything and stopped driving totally.
By lesson 3 I was back on the road again, sweaty at first but that soon went away. By lesson 5 I was going over the bridges I'd avoided for a few years and by lesson 12 I was back in city driving again.
This past January 2008, I drove from Indiana to Florida in 19 hours by myself then home again 4 days later. The next week I flew for the first time in 33 years back to Florida for my dad's surgery then flew home again.
Work the program, do every lesson/assignment they say to do and yes you too will overcome the fear of driving and go anywhere you want to go.
You can do this!
David
*Note: a spellchecker would be nice, bridge is not spelled brigde. lol

I believe I have a milder case of A & D, but the roads drive me NUTS too! I live in San Diego, CA and we have some of the craziest driving conditions I have experienced anywhere in these United States. It's a miracle that I ever make it home in one piece and I amaze myself with long strings of expletives. It's not us.... it's THEM! Say a prayer, take your meds and wear your seatbelt.

Afernoon, no I've never taken any type of meds for my anxiety even though my doc prescribed them for me, always threw the prescription in the trash until one day he finally gave up.
For me, I refuse to be dependent on a drug to feel better but that's me. Some people meds on the market help alot, just remember we are all different and have different needs. Whether you take them or not, doesn't matter, what does is you are overcoming and/or managing it by using the tools & skills gained from this program.
Good luck to all!
