I have severe health anxiety...I recently recovered from a stomach virus, & ever since then, I can't stop thinking about it, & when I do, I feel like I get these symptoms. I burp, & get some burning, (not bad) sensation in my throat, like I've burped up vomit..(sorry to be so gross. But, I noticed when I'm pre-occupied, I feel ok...what's going on with me?

I am no doctor but my experience is this I to will burp when I get real anxious. I don't have the burning feeling I don't think. But I do burp alot when I get real worked up and have a nervous stomach and you said when you are pre-occupied you don't feel it. Sounds like to me it may just be one of the side effects of stress/anxiety/panic. But I do suggest that if it keeps up to ask your doctor about it just to make sure. Having a doctors opinion always helps and makes you feel better. Wish you luck with this.

Definitly sounds like anxiety to me. I get burning sensations in my tummy region, in my neck and so forth, but shortly after I burp and it goes away. It is not uncommon to have some acid reflux with all this because we are speeding everything up when we are in panic/anxiety mode, even our digestion, which our body doesn't appreciate, I am sure. I truly feel this is all anxiety related because you say when you are preoccupied you don't notice it. That is typical. And, when you are not, you notice it and it seems 100X worse because you start to worry and that fuels more anxiety . .. a neverending cycle. Don't be surprised that when your mind tires of this symptom it will shift to another -- it 's just playing tricks on you trying to get a rise out of you! ha! YOu will be fine. I do agree if it keeps up and becomes more bothersome, see a doctor just so he/she can put your mind at ease and perhaps suggest something to make you feel better. In the meantime, try TUMS (I think I could buy stock in it!! ha ha!) and relax. Just remember: "Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow." -- Swedish Proverb My best to you! Wiskers ~

Thanks for the replies. I do believe I have a very nervous stomach. I've been through alot lately. I had to go to a funeral for a childhood friend, & I don't do funerals very well. General stress from running behind my 2 year old son; relationship slightly rocky; and generally have health anxieties, so I'm sure I'm doing this to myself.

Hey.I come from a long line of nervous stomachs and acid reflux. OTC Prilosec has done wonders, and I've even been able to take it now on an as needed basis. That's a long way from active/healing sores and scar tissue in my throat 20 years ago!
And Tums is great for more instant relief.
