Well, probably no one wants to answer this one because no one wants to cause more anxiety with a scary answer:).

I don't personally think that anxiety directly causes heart attacks. I do think long term anxiety wears on your immune system and you can develop what is known as "adrenal fatigue". I've personally experienced long term anxiety and was sick with colds, and swollen lymph nodes often. I'm glad that I learned to slow down and take care of myself. Before I got better, I would welcome sickness as a break from the anxiety!:( Now, it's so great to just want to be well, and to actually be well. The good news is that what helps alleviate anxiety such as regular moderate exercise, a good diet, good sleep habits, having a good and positive focus, knowing how to have innocent fun, etc....all of that improves your health in every way. Try to focus on doing those things to improve your quality of life and have a positive focus about it:).

So, I think the main focus for getting better from anxiety is quality of life. I don't think it is good to motivate yourself to get better by using fear of health problems, though some may feel differently. My grandmother in law is one of the most anxious people I know, and she's in her 90's!:) I'm glad she's lived so long, but how sad to live that way for so long, you know? So, anxiety can wear down your immune system and impact your health but I don't think that anxiety ever directly causes a heart attack. There are so many factors involved such as genetics, body type, environment, etc. For example, women, unless they have an underlying congenital heart problem are pretty much heart attack risk free until they go through menopause because estrogen protects their hearts. So, whether they worry or not, they are protected, but again, it's the impact on the quality of life.

Take control over what you can, and make a plan to take care of yourself both physically and emotionally. Do it out of love for yourself instead of being motivated by fear, and you'll be much happier and more successful:).

Take care,
