Fear from work
I have been on short term disability for A and D for 10 weeks.I am planning to return to work Mon.AM. My boss just e-mailed to let me know he wants to meet with me first thing.I thought I was making good progress and right this minute I have never been so scared in my life.Anyone out there had to go back to work after a break.
I had to do the same as you recently..... I think that was the hardest thing we have to do....I was late a lot at first as I couldn't get up on time, was slow and confused some, but I got stronger and stronger. I am on the 1 yr mark, and am just slightly better at work, so it isn't easy. That's why I decided to take the course. I'm thru week 4 in the tapes homework, but have gone to 9 in listening. I will go back and do the lessons and listen to the tapes again and again, My mind is wired a little different being an engineer. I made a big jump lately and took my first business trip on an airplane last week! I did fine. So I know I am making progress. I plan on doing more "Scary" things within the next month, another trip, maybe overseas taking on a new project, whatever, but just do it......I'm on anti depression meds for over a year and would love to off of those devils...... So going back is a bear, be truthful with the boss and tell him you should be on light duty for awhile until you both see how it goes. They should understand in these cases. Is your boss understanding and know about depression and anxiety? If it's too hard at first ask for help, my bosses were only too glad to give me more help. I still ask for more help when I'm swamped... I'm with the Gov. in the US Foreign service, we man the 260 embassies

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves...
who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are we not to be? --Unknown

Hi Kelly--
Yes, I had to return to work after a 2 week surgery and I had the same anxiety like you (because we think too much)..
Some Advice> Because you are scared- means that you are a competant worker, who takes their job seriously.. A good employer will appreciate that.. For example, I was sooo nervous once when I met with my boss and I apologized-- he saw that as a strength!! He told me my nervousness showed him how much I cared about my job.. So, enjoy the weekend, get your clothes, lunch, etc. ready before hand and get a good night sleep on Sunday!! You will be fine!
