Ok, so I'm battling AD/Depression. My family keeps telling me to get a haircut, dye my hair, stuff like that. I'm more like, when I recover, I will give myself a brand new look. When I start to feel better. What do you guys think? when is the best time?

Hey,

Don't over think the situation. It's like when I was younger my mother would say,"you need a hair cut".So,then maybe I did !!!! My advice go get the color and cut even though you feel bad.Sometimes simple advice from those around you might just be the ticket. Some people even feel better after they get it done,I know I do for a while, easier to take care of as well.

When my anxiety was at its highest last Spring I kept canceling appointments to get my hair cut and colored b/c I was scared I'd have a panic attack. I finally made myself go because I had a patch of gray hair that was starting to show .... I felt so much better after I went. It made me feel better and hey, when you are feeling depressed every little thing helps.

Recovery is the ability to do it regardless of your anxiety. If you wait until you feel better, it may be a very long time. The only way to reach recovery is to just DO IT, whether you feel like it or not.

It is by taking steps and doing the things that make you uncomfortable that will bring on recovery.

Recovery is NEVER reached until you take steps outside your comfort zone.

I belive in look good feel good. I have anxiety, panic attacks and I just got a great cut and a nice auburn color done for fall. If your loved one or friend was feeling really bad, you might treat them to a dinner out, a pedicure, or some spa time. You are feeling really bad, so why not treat yourself with the same kindness, compassion, and occasional pampering? On days when I am feeling really bad, I'll try and do my makeup and wear something flattering. Try it and see what happens, you might get a nice suprise :-)

In my opinion, schedule your appt to be your stylist's 1st appt of the day. That way, they are not running behind and you are less likely to have to wait and become more anxious. Also, let the stylist know you have anxiety and that you may need to take a break or get up and walk while your color is processing...any reputable salon will be more than understanding and accomodate your needs. Generally, most salons are least busy 1st thing with the exception of Saturdays which are our busiest day of the week. There are also salons that make house calls...check around if your not quite ready to go to the salon just yet.

Hi terry!
As a hairstylist ANYTIME is a great time to get your haircut!! You will feel so great after you get it done! If you are really worried about having anxiety while being in the chair..and want to practice getting over your fear...the best time of day to go is usually in the morning or early afternoon. All that will be in there mostly will be little cute old ladys with walkers! haha
