Well I must ask for support from the community on this one. Things were going really well for me and Anxiety was really a small part of my life. Three weeks before Christmas I decided as a gift to my family to quit chewing tobacco cold turkey. My will power has been strong, but I am still facing the increased anxiety. When if first quit over a month ago, I knew the anxiety attacks were a result of withdrawal(shakey, anxious, really bad feeling). Now I find myself still having episodes tight head and chest muscles. My assumption is that the tobacco withdrawals triggered some old, forgotten anxious feelings. Any help or support would be appreciated. I thought this was buried, but I let my gaurd down.

It is completely normal for you to be feeling anxiety in dealing with your withdrawal symptoms. Keep reminding yourself that and tell yourself that it's okay to feel this way.

I'm thinking that you're correct in feeling that your old feelings were stirred up. I can relate to having a hard time getting them to go away after such a long period of being, for the most part, anxiety free.

I think the key is that the skills we learn through this program are something we will have to always keep in our tool box and frequently pull them out and sharpen them.

Hang in there. The feelings will pass. They always do.

P.S. Yesterday, I had 11 weeks without a cigarette. All that remains now is my mental addiction and even that is starting to subside. You can do it!

I dipped smokeless tobacco for 30 years. Quit last Thanksgiving. I have been dip free for 45 days, I have used the herbal snuff just to relieve some of the cravings. The following is a link to a great site and support group that will help. PM me if you need to talk, I will be glad to help anyway I can.

This site is not just for smokeless tobacco but also for chewing tobacco and smoking.

The site has some great info on it. It is nice to know that some other people have anxiety attacks this late in the quitting game. It really means a lot to get replies. It lets you know people who understand what you feel are there for you.

Thanks again.
