I have been on 75mg of Effexor for 10 years. I've always had off and on depression even while I'm taking this. In the past year my hushand says he thinks I'm depressed more than not. My doctor upped me another 37.5mg, but it makes me a little anxious and I wake up alot more at night, even though I take ambien. I'm wondering if I should just go back to a schrink, and try another med. I'm so sick of this on and off mood swings of mine. Anyone out there know how long it takes for the additional effexor to make a difference ? Any suggestions are appreciated. Anyone know of a good support group in Cincinnati ? Thanks, Love you all, Bonnie

Honestly can you try to go off everything? I was on Paxil for 2 years and ended up having awful anxiety attacks at the end and was still depressed the whole time. I couldn't believe the fog I was in till I got off. I'll be up front that the withdrawl was hard at times but there is never a good time to do it and I was adamant about not upping my dose. The program has helped though I'm not great at following it exactly and am doing it really slowly out of laziness.
If you feel you need something, I would try another med. Sleeping is too important, I would try melatonin for that.

Im sorry your struggling so with your medication and depression...but medication alone wont fix your problem with depression....I suggest that you really really work your program...make those changes in your life and attitude so that you can live your life happy. Eat properly, excersise, rest, and the most important is the positive self talk.....you must start doing these things to feel better.

You have the control to overcome your depression and your anxiety....but you have to work at it it takes alot of effort. I have lived with anxiety for a long time and I work my skills everyday...I have to make sure Im not a grump and I have to put a smile on my face even when I dont really want to.....If Im a happy person then the people around me will be happy and vice and versa.

Stay on your medication and make some serious adjustments in your life maybe in a short while you will start to feel better and you will be able to wean off per your doctors advice.

Keep working...you can do it.

Thanks for your encouragement, I will try harder. I just had surgery on my brain 6 weeks ago for bleeding, and I also think maybe I'm still depressed from that. It's just that everytime I have a hurdle, I seem to fall back into those old feelings. Thanks for listening, Bonnie

Oh goodness, no wonder you're a little more depressed. What a scary time and not being able to handle hurdles like that is fairly normal I would think. At least it's "normal" around here. That also might be affecting your medication too.
